The Director, Medical & Scientific Relations, WHC is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive engagement strategy for key external medical and scientific thought leaders (TLs) and professional societies within a designated therapeutic area. This individual will focus on building and nurturing collaborative relationships with these stakeholders to gather insights, disseminate scientific information, and contribute to the overall Medical Affairs and organizational objective. The key responsibility for this role will be to coordinate and align with cross-functional partners, i.e. US Commercial, Global Commercial, and Global Medical. This role is essential for driving scientific understanding, fostering collaboration, and positioning the company as a credible and trusted partner within the medical and scientific communities.

Your tasks and responsibilities include :

  • Thought Leader Engagement Strategy : Developing and implementing a strategic plan for engaging with national, regional, and emerging TLs in the assigned therapeutic area, aligning with medical strategy and overall organizational objectives;
  • Relationship Management : Building and maintaining strong, credible, and compliant relationships with TLs through scientific exchange, advisory boards, congresses, and other appropriate channels;
  • Professional Society Engagement : Establishing and cultivating relationships with relevant professional medical societies, identifying opportunities for collaboration on educational initiatives, research, and policy discussions;
  • Insight Gathering & Dissemination : Gathering valuable insights from TLs and professional societies regarding unmet medical needs, clinical practice, scientific advancements, and competitor activities, and effectively communicating these insights to internal stakeholders;
  • Scientific Exchange & Education : Facilitating peer-to-peer scientific exchange, coordinating educational programs, including speaker training and presentations, and ensuring the timely and compliant delivery of scientific and clinical information;
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Working effectively with internal teams, including Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), Medical Affairs Strategy, Research & Development (R&D), and Commercial, to align TL and society engagement activities with broader medical and business objectives;
  • Compliance and Governance : Ensuring all engagement activities with TLs and professional societies adhere to internal company policies and relevant legal and regulatory guidelines, including those related to promotional versus non-promotional activities and anti-bribery regulations;
  • Planning & Execution : Planning and executing engagements at key medical conferences, including coordinating meetings, symposia, and other activities with TLs and professional societies.

Who you are :

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following :

  • Required Qualifications :
  • Bachelor's Degree;
  • Experience in Medical Affairs or a related field within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with a focus on TL and / or professional society engagement;
  • Strong understanding of the therapeutic area, including disease state, treatment paradigms, clinical data, and medical practice.
  • Compliance Knowledge : In-depth understanding of regulations and policies governing medical affairs activities and interactions with healthcare professionals;
  • Relationship Building & Management : Demonstrated ability to establish and cultivate strong, ethical relationships with diverse stakeholders;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific information clearly and concisely;
  • Ability to develop strategic engagement plans, analyze data, and translate insights into actionable recommendations;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including active listening, empathy, and the ability to influence and persuade others, are crucial;
  • Operating with the highest level of professionalism and ethical conduct in all interactions;
  • The ability to adapt to changing scientific landscapes, market dynamics, and stakeholder needs is essential;
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to ensure efficient planning and execution of engagement activities;
  • Ability to travel significantly for conferences, meetings, and field engagements.
  • Preferred Qualifications :
  • Advanced scientific or medical degree (MD, DO, PharmD, PhD) is preferred;
  • 7+ years of industry experience;
  • Experience in the relevant therapeutic area is highly desirable;
  • Experience leading or influencing cross-functional teams and managing projects is highly desirable.
  • Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $182,600 to $273,900. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This posting will be available for application until at least : 8-22-25.
