Job description

Title : Director, Clinical Operations

Location : Logan Square

Schedule : On-Site, Monday - Friday (8 : 30am - 5 : 00pm), on call 24 / 7

Summary :

Are you a leader in clinical services, passionate about delivering high-quality care to vulnerable populations? We are seeking a Clinical Director to provide leadership and vision, establish policies and procedures, and ensure comprehensive, high-quality clinical services throughout all Safety Initiatives, primarily within our residential programs.

As a Clinical Director, you will provide leadership to the Clinical Department, leveraging industry knowledge and best practices to promote the mission and vision of Heartland Human Care Services. You will support culture development and management efforts, ensuring compliance with funder and licensing requirements, and promoting evidence-based interventions. Collaborating with internal and external partners, you will coordinate comprehensive clinical support to participants, including psychiatric services, community-based programs, and training linkages. This position works within a matrix approach to leadership, models collaborative approaches within and across teams, and coordinates laterally with program directors and others to ensure effective implementation of organizational priorities.

  • Essential Functions :

    Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision of all Youth Residential Services programs (YRS) clinical staff and interns as well as master's level staff working toward advanced licensing in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Implements and ensures all licensing and agency standards are met in Clinical / Mental Health Services.
  • Oversee clinical intern selection, including interviewing and screening and placement in appropriate YRS program .
  • Provides clinical supervision to interns and master’s level staff working toward advanced licensure.
  • Provides support to all Youth Residential Services programs (YRS) managers and staff as necessary.
  • Conducts file reviews and monitors documentation related to clinical services.
  • Creates and monitors implementation of group and other psycho-educational curricula and other therapeutic curricula in program.
  • Coordinates and leads the clinical group supervision / consultation meetings.
  • Provides oversight and reviews the medication log, as well as assists with self-administration of medications.
  • Transports / escorts program participants to any location necessitated by programmatic needs.
  • Supervises and ensures safety of the youth within the program and during off site / outdoor appointments, trips, activities, as assigned or needed.
  • Provides on-call 24 / 7 coverage for clinical crises / consultations / risk and safety assessments / hospitalizations.
  • Addresses complaints and resolve problems for both employees and program participants.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities (if applicable) :

    The following positions may be directly reported to the Director of Clinical Services : Associate Director of Clinical (if available), Clinical Supervisors, and Clinicians (MHPC).

  • Has oversight of all Clinical Supervisors and their supervisees , as assigned by Senior Leadership. Has direct supervision of clinical staff when assigned, including support and supervision of master-level staff working toward advanced licensing, by the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Ensures all licensing and agency standards are being met in the area of Clinical / mental health services.
  • Ensures staff compliance with organizational policies, and practices, as well as Organization and profession's standards of ethics.
  • Ensures the facilitation of effective Multidisciplinary Staffing and additional team approaches to participant care.
  • Engages in Strategic Planning and Implementation related to clinical services or the Organization, as assigned.
  • Assists SAFEty Initiatives to develop and incorporate evidence-based and promising practices across Safety Initiative programs. Engages in project management and oversight, as assigned.
  • Ensures program quality related to clinical operations across Safety Initiatives, including the development and review of outcome measures. Develops, facilitates, and oversees the training of clinical staff in evidence-based or promising practices in the provision of direct clinical services.
  • Develops, implements, and adopts the use of evidence-based curricula for Social Emotional Learning and Counseling Psychotherapy groups, including oversight of all related staff training.
  • Develops participant care protocols and standard operating procedures as needed. Coordinates external partnerships or affiliated partnerships associated with clinical research, program quality, or training and development. Models and promotes collaborative engagement within and across the Organization.
  • Appropriately manages all external relationships, such as universities, vendors, grantors, and others. Model Heartland Human Care Services Leadership Qualities or 4Rs (Responsible, Reliable, Relational, and Respectful).
  • Education and Experience :

  • Master’s degree in Social Work is required.
  • Minimum (4) years of clinical and supervisory experience is required.
  • Bilingual is strongly preferred.
  • Certifications / Licenses :

  • Illinois Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Illinois Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) required.
  • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities (K / S / A) :

  • Ability to speak and fluency in a second language including but not limited to the following multi-language abilities is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization .
  • Access to regular, dependable and timely transportation.
  • Ability and comfortability working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication skills. Strong networker, convener, relationship builder and communicator with experience collaborating with diverse work teams and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information possessing skills to handle situations in a professional and diplomatic manner.
  • A high degree of collaboration and emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and analytical ability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook / Exchange; Windows operating systems; and other software routinely used by Heartland Human Care Services.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated with minimal direct supervision.
  • Strategic thought partnership and consultancy skills.
  • Work Arrangement :

    This role is not eligible for remote work. All hours will be worked in person. This position has an active presence at all assigned programs on a rotating basis.

    Work Environment :

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Each program site operates on a 24 / 7 basis, 365 days per year.  To meet both the needs of our participants and contractual obligations, employees are required to be flexible in regard to scheduling and work location.
  • Program sites are located throughout the Chicago area, including the North and South sides of Chicago, as well as the suburbs.  Employees may be required to report to any one of our locations on a temporary or permanent basis.
  • Physical Demands :

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear .
  • The employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk.
  • The employee must be able to stoop, kneel and / or crawl.
  • The employee is regularly required to use hands to key, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The employee must have unrestricted ability to provide physical restraint.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
