This recruitment will be used to fill a Library Media Specialist position at the Cheltenham Youth Detention Center. Candidates with secondary education Conditional, Standard Professional, Advance Professional, Advance Professional +30, or Advance Professional +60 Certification in Secondary Education, Library Media Specialist or Librarian endorsement areas are welcome to apply.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to plan and administer the school's library media program. As an instructional partner, the incumbent collaborates with teachers to provide student information literacy skills instruction integrated into the content areas; supports staff and students in developing an appreciation of literature and reading; manages school library materials, facilities, and equipment; and communicates JSEP's vision for accelerated student achievement and successful transition within the context of effective and meaningful library programming.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.

Experience : None.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a MSDE Secondary Education Educators Licensure in Library or Library Media.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Teachers in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code of Maryland and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials. Information on requirements for certification and procedures for application may be obtained from the Maryland State Board of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD 21201-2595.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to Substance Abuse Testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. Applicants must consent to State Police and Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigations / Background Checks as a routine procedure for all employees required to work in State Juvenile Services Facilities.

Proof of eligibility to work in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act is required. If, once employed, it is determined that the incumbent does not qualify for at least a Conditional Certificate, the incumbent's employment will be terminated. Also, failure to obtain and maintain the appropriate Maryland Teaching Certificate will be the basis for termination of employment.
