Position Summary
The Aftermarket Controls Engineer is primarily responsible for troubleshooting and supporting control system solutions for Aftermarket support contract customers. Additionally, the Aftermarket Controls Engineer will assist with designing and implementing control system solutions for aftermarket projects, upgrades, and retrofits. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve the functionality, reliability, and efficiency of control systems, ensuring customer satisfaction and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Troubleshooting and Support
- Diagnose and resolve control system issues reported by customers or field service teams.
- Repair or replace malfunctioning components, including sensors, PLCs, and actuators.
- Calibrate and adjust systems to restore functionality and meet operational standards.
- Minimize downtime by quickly identifying root causes and applying effective solutions.
- Visit customer sites to perform on-site diagnostics, repairs, and system checks.
- Provide technical support to internal teams and external clients regarding control system functionality and optimization.
- Collaborate on system performance and customer issues with SIM engineering teams.
- Assist in troubleshooting complex issues that may require design improvements or revisions.
- Perform quality checks to ensure systems are operating as intended after service.
- Provide ongoing technical support to resolve customer issues with existing systems.
- Offer guidance on system optimization and preventative maintenance to reduce future problems.
- Document system performance after service interventions and provide feedback for improvement.
Control System Design and Development
Develop, program, and test control system software for aftermarket projects, including PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.Perform SCADA system upgrades.Retrofit systems with new components or technology to extend their life and meet updated requirements.Evaluate existing systems and propose upgrades or modifications to enhance performance.Analyze system data to identify areas for optimization and implement corrective measures.Design electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts in accordance with relevant standards.Project Management
Assist with managing aftermarket projects from concept through completion, ensuring on-time delivery and adherence to budget.Assist with preparing detailed project documentation, including proposals, technical specifications, and test plans.Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with sales, engineering, and field service teams to understand customer needs and translate them into technical solutions.Train customers and technicians on system upgrades, features, and best practices.Continuous Improvement
Research and implement emerging technologies and trends in control systems to provide innovative solutions.Develop standard procedures and best practices for aftermarket control upgrades and retrofits.Perform regular maintenance checks on control systems to ensure optimal performance.Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field.3+ years of experience in control system design, programming, and troubleshooting, preferably in an aftermarket or retrofit setting.Technical Skills
Proficiency in programming PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and HMIs.Experience with SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols (Ethernet / IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.).Strong understanding of electrical and control system design, including CAD software for schematics.Knowledge of safety standards such as NFPA, OSHA, and IEC.Ensure all service activities comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.Soft Skills

Willingness to travel to customer sites for installation, commissioning, and support, as needed (up to 25%).Availability for after-hours support.Ability to work in a hands-on environment, including equipment testing and troubleshooting.Preferred Qualifications
Experience with retrofitting older systems into modern control architectures.Familiarity with robotics and motion control systems.
