The Mental Health Clinician Supervisor leads and oversees a team of mental health clinicians to ensure the provision of high-quality mental health services.

This position requires a combination of clinical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment, while always keeping client care at the forefront.

Direct oversight includes but is not limited to developing, coordinating, evaluating, and supervising all services tailored for adults and youth within mental health programs.

In addition to directly overseeing patients, the role involves supervising the MHP and Peer Support teams. Alongside these responsibilities, they also perform vital administrative functions integral to the seamless operation of the programs.

This is a full-time, exempt position with a pay range of $67,725 to $91,500 annually.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Supervision and Team Leadership :

  • Provide clinical supervision and guidance to a team of mental health clinicians, ensuring adherence to best practices and ethical standards.
  • Foster a positive and supportive team culture, encouraging professional development and collaboration among team members.
  • Supervises employee’s daily activities and, as approved, conducts hiring, terminating, disciplinary and grievance actions.
  • Ensures all staff, including themself, consistently maintain professional boundaries with patients and coworkers.
  • Ensures staff compliance with the code of ethics and WAC associated with respective certifications and licenses.

2. Clinical Oversight :

  • Review and assess clinical assessments, treatment plans, and interventions to ensure quality and effectiveness.
  • Provide consultation on complex cases, offering guidance and expertise to support clinicians in their work.
  • Monitor compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

3. Staff Development :

  • Identify and address the professional development needs of clinicians through training, mentoring, and performance feedback.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and encourage clinicians to stay informed about the latest developments in mental health practice.

4. Quality Assurance :

  • Implement and oversee quality assurance measures to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of mental health services.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure the integration of mental health services into a comprehensive healthcare framework.

5. Community Engagement :

  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, departments, community, and representatives of federal, state, local, and other agencies to address issues relevant to integrated behavioral health and Substance Abuse care service delivery.
  • Participate in community events and initiatives to promote mental health awareness and reduce stigma.

6. Administration :

  • Coordinates with telehealth providers as needed and appropriate.
  • Develop operational workflows, information, and educational offerings for clients, staff, and the community.
  • Oversees the effective use of Electronic Health Records and other reporting software.
  • Serves as an information conduit between departmental administration and program staff to assure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and compliance with HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • Supports Program Administrator in administrative oversight of grants / contracts.
  • Supports Program Administrator in the development of the program's annual budget and monitors expenditures to ensure departmental operation remains within established guidelines.
  • Facilitates coordination of services with tribal, federal, state, and county justice system agencies and other entities.
  • Directs staff activities to maintain and enhance revenue through billing opportunities and grant performance.

Requirements :

Must be an Approved Supervisor according to WAC 246-809-134 - For Behavioral Health Supervisor Supervising Mental Health Services

  • The approved supervisor must hold a license as defined per WAC 246-809-110. The license must be without restrictions and have been in good standing for the previous two years.
  • The approved supervisor must have completed the following :
  • A minimum of fifteen clock hours of training in clinical supervision obtained through :
  • A supervision course or
  • Continuing education credits on supervision; or
  • Supervision of supervision or
  • Twenty-five hours of experience in the supervision of clinical practice.

If the individual is both a substance use disorder professional AND a Behavioral Health Supervisor Supervising Mental Health Services, then the following also applies :

  • Be an Approved Supervisor according to WAC 246-811-049
  • An approved supervisor is a certified substance use disorder professional or a person who meets or exceeds the requirements of a certified substance use disorder professional in the state of Washington and would be eligible to take the examination required for certification.
  • An approved supervisor must have at least three thousand hours of experience in a state-approved substance use disorder treatment agency and the supervised experience hours required to become a substance use disorder professional.
  • An approved supervisor may substitute twenty-eight clock hours of recognized supervisory training for one thousand hours of experience.

Education / Experience : Master's or doctoral degree in mental health counseling or a behavioral science Master's or doctoral degree in a field relating to mental health counseling.

A minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience in clinical supervision of MHP. Familiarity with Medicaid billing, Managed Care Plans (MCO), state contracts, Washington State Administrative Codes, and Revenue Cycle Management.

Strong organizational and communication skills. Knowledge of Electronic Health Record systems.

Certificates and Licenses : Current valid driver’s licenses and automobile insurance are required. Ability to pass Washington State and Federal background checks.
