Reports To : Streets Foreman
General Purpose
Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of City-owned facilities, yard areas, street lighting systems, and material management operations. Assists with the operation and maintenance of the Public Works yard, including garbage, green waste, and scrap metal handling, housekeeping, record keeping, and basic equipment and electrical work.
Supervision Received
Works under the general supervision of the Streets Foreman.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs maintenance, repairs, and light construction work on City Public Works buildings, shops, and yard facilities.
Performs preventive maintenance and repair of streetlights, including troubleshooting electrical issues, replacing bulbs or fixtures, coordinating with utility companies as needed, and maintaining accurate records of maintenance and repairs.
Oversees garbage, green waste, and scrap metal management operations at the Public Works yard, ensuring proper sorting, handling, and disposal of materials.
Maintains the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the Public Works yard, including storage areas, materials, and equipment.
Hauls materials, equipment, and debris in and out of the yard using City vehicles and equipment.
Assists with minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical tasks in City facilities.
Performs general housekeeping and grounds maintenance duties for City-owned facilities and yards.
Assists the Streets Division with snow removal, asphalt patching, and other street maintenance activities as needed.
Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment and power tools, including loader, backhoe, dump truck, street sweeper, and other related machinery.
Participates in the Citys on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies.
Ensures compliance with City safety policies and procedures; maintains a safe work environment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience :
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
Two (2) years of experience in building, facilities, or electrical maintenance preferred.
Experience operating light or heavy equipment desirable.
Licenses and Certifications :
Must possess a valid Utah Driver License.
Must obtain a Utah Commercial Driver License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire.
Electrical certification or experience preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Working knowledge of building maintenance, electrical systems, and basic construction practices.
Knowledge of safe equipment operation, materials handling, and waste management procedures.
Ability to perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks with minimal supervision.
Ability to maintain accurate records related to street light maintenance and other assigned tasks.
Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
Ability to use discretion, good judgment, and problem-solving skills in carrying out assignments.
Self-motivated and attentive to detail.
Working Conditions
Works in both indoor and outdoor environments subject to seasonal weather conditions.
May be required to lift or move heavy objects (up to 100 lbs).
Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, electrical hazards, and moving equipment.
Subject to on-call rotation and may work nights, weekends, or holidays as needed.
