Description

Richmond Behavioral Health has a new and exciting opportunity for a PRN Licensed Nurse Practitioner to join our REACH Team.

The selected individual will perform complex work in the care and treatment of guests in a public health program, performing assessments and evaluations, determining diagnoses and prescribing medications (as needed), ordering and interpreting lab results, assisting with pre-admission medical paperwork, providing education and counseling, making referrals, and related work as apparent or assigned.

Work is performed under the general direction of the assigned Residential Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Assesses new admissions for medical and psychiatric needs; provides diagnoses and treatment (including prescribing) as indicated;
  • In collaboration with site RNs, provides ongoing evaluation of response to treatment including medication side effects and adverse reactions;
  • Orders and completes lab work as needed; interprets lab results and adjusts treatment accordingly;
  • Delivers injections and venipuncture services as needed;
  • Participates in review of admissions when needed; signs off on medication orders to ensure continuity of care for admissions to the residential crisis stabilization programs;
  • Perform rounds at each residential group home and crisis stabilization site (currently 3 sites in Chesterfield area);
  • Educates clients and staff on healthy habits, prevention and treatment recommendations;

Reviews and documents client records and treatment plans; prepares progress notes and evaluations; completes prior authorizations and paperwork as requested in the EHR

  • Communicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to include other medical providers, leadership staff, client systems (medical, psychiatry, case management);
  • collaborates with RNs for each site to ensure collaborative treatment model is followed;
  • Participates in administrative and clinical staff meetings as needed;
  • Assist with medical and clinical policy development, as needed;
  • Functions as a change agent to identify and implement process improvement initiatives;
  • Participate in maintaining standards of care and implementation of evidence based processes in acute and non-acute settings;
  • Maintains timely and accurate documentation congruent with the agency's guidelines, ethics and best practice, evidence-based standards of his / her profession and managed care standards;
  • Ensures required trainings are current and completed in a timely manner;
  • Requires flexibility to provide remote service delivery evenings and weekends at times to support admission process;

Performs other related work duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of practical nursing and prescribing techniques and the care and treatment of all types of clients; considerable knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene, basic health and safety practices;
  • skills in preparing and administering medications and general knowledge of proper dosage, effects and contradictions; skill in the operation of general and specialized equipment used in the area of assignment;
  • ability to make astute observations of guest's conditions and to report changes accurately; ability to understand, interpret, and relate oral and written instruction;
  • ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with guests and family members, medical personnel, insurance providers, other employees and the general public;

ability to maintain professional composure under stress; ability to multitask and manage conflicting demands.

Position Requirements

Education and Experience

Master's degree with coursework in nursing with at least 2 years (full time) experience practicing as a Nurse Practitioner.

Meets requirements as a Licensed Mental Health Professional. Experience in working with individuals with dual diagnoses (I / DD and MH) preferred.

Prefer across the life span credentials. Preference for those who have at least 1 year of supervisory / leadership experience but not required.

Special Requirements

Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner, Prescriptive Authority license, Drug Enforcement Administration registration and National Provider Identification.

Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

CPR / First Aid / AED
