Production Planner
The Production Planner will play a key role in ensuring the smooth flow of materials and products through Neogen's manufacturing process. This position is responsible for coordinating material requirements, scheduling production activities, and maintaining optimal inventory levels to meet customer and business demands efficiently. Working closely with internal teams and external suppliers, the Production Planner helps ensure that materials and finished goods are available on time and to specification.
This role is based on-site at our Lansing, Michigan facility, with opportunities for cross-functional collaboration across operations and supply chain teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Review and analyze Material Requirements Planning (MRP) reports to determine manufacturing events and raw material requirements.
Prepare and process purchase orders and bid requests in alignment with company policies.
Identify, select, and engage with vendors to obtain information such as price, availability, and delivery schedules.
Evaluate proposals and negotiate contracts within budgetary and operational constraints.
Maintain accurate procurement and planning records, including purchases, delivery timelines, cost data, and inventory performance.
Monitor and address issues related to product quality, delays, or nonconformance in coordination with Quality, Production, and vendor teams.
Expedite the delivery of goods and materials to support manufacturing timelines.
Generate and maintain weekly reports, including planned order and expedite / de-expedite updates.
Partner with the Inventory Clerk to assess current inventory status and initiate work orders accordingly.
Collaborate with the Materials Handler on scheduling and coordination of incoming raw materials.
Support special projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned by the Materials Manager.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
Experience with MRP systems, production scheduling, and materials management in a manufacturing environment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments and with external suppliers.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with ERP / MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar) a plus.
Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and drive efficiency in a dynamic production setting.
