Position Summary

A working engineer supporting multiple disciplines (mechanical & electrical engineers, designers, technicians, engineering coordinators) who are responsible for product design.

Manage the regulatory and quality aspects of product designs. Coordinates development / training of an engineering team by providing conscious and accountable leadership.

Assumes responsibility for adherence to regulatory and agency standards

  • Ensures all product designs adhere to regulatory and agency standards as relevant to the product and market of the product (ex : UL Standards).
  • Supports the creation and execution of the annual Engineering Policy Deployment plan.
  • Obtains and maintains regulatory certifications and standards (UL, CE, ATEX, IECEx, etc.).
  • Analyzes warranty data to implement corrective actions and propose warranty reduction programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the design of fluid handling products including pumps, meters, accessories, etc. utilizing lean product development for lean manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage engineering work loads across numerous projects for developing new pumps and meters as well as supporting legacy products.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and monitor the engineering department budget, forecast future regulatory costs, and understand the overall business impact.
  • Models the importance of safety within a manufacturing facility.
  • Demonstrates excellence in completion of all other duties as assigned.

Assumes responsibility for driving Continuous Improvement of engineering processes

  • Drive Continuous Improvement through use of Lean Product Development tools and Engineering Change Notices.
  • Responsible for the creation, training, and maintenance of the regulatory procedures.
  • Seeks design partnerships with other departments.
  • Solidify support of Policy Deployment targets through resource planning (internal and external) and visual management.

Assumes responsibility for meeting company’s Policy Deployment Goals in engineering team

  • Invest up to 5% of time to develop self and employee’s technical abilities.
  • Designed partnership with product management to provide regulatory guidance to customer needs defined from Voice of Customer research.
  • Support customer service with regulatory information as needed by customers.
  • Achieve regulatory expense targets for existing designs and future product enhancements that are developed by others.
  • Research standards and provide direction of new products concepts.
  • Support development of new products or redesigns to ensure they meet regulatory requirements defined by product management.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve engineering regulatory processes and tools (ex. regulatory certification requirements, current product certifications, production test requirements, etc.).

Education / Certifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent, Master’s Degree preferred

Experience Required

Understand global regulatory requirements and appropriate protection methods for hazardous and non-hazardous fluid handling equipment.

Experience managing multiple projects in a manufacturing environment.

Understanding of fluid mechanics and structural analysis relating to fluid handling equipment. Experience with lean manufacturing tools, particularly lean product development.

Required Knowledge

Strong ability to build relationships with colleagues and external regulatory agencies.

Effective communicator throughout all levels of the organization, both internal and external.

Strong business acumen to understand the impact engineering decisions have on all aspects of the organization.

Physical Activities and Requirements of this Position

Able to lift up to 35 pounds and able to use hand tools.

Travel Up to 15%

Working Conditions

Work environment includes office, manufacturing floor, and lab containing petroleum products.
