The Night Ministry of Chicago, IL is looking to hire a Part-Time CTA Outreach Professional to work with our Outreach Health Ministry team.

This CTA Outreach Professional will support the mission and goals of The Night Ministry by assisting program participants, many of whom are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness and are medically vulnerable, to achieve housing and health stability.

ABOUT THE NIGHT MINISTRY

With open hearts and minds, we provide housing, healthcare, spiritual care, social services, and human connection to members of the Chicago community who are struggling with poverty and homelessness.

We accept people as they are and work to address their immediate physical, emotional, and social needs while affirming their sense of humanity.

We were founded when a coalition of diverse North Side congregations hired Rev. Tom Behrens to reach out to people where gathered at night due to isolation, despair, and homelessness.

From those humble beginnings over 40 years ago when Tom's first office was the trunk of his car, we have grown to a financially sound nonprofit that provides numerous award-winning services to the most vulnerable in our community.

Although not all employees are involved in direct services, everyone is dedicated to the mission of The Night Ministry, believes in its core values, and knows that their work is highly valued.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CTA OUTREACH PROFESSIONAL

As a Part-Time CTA Outreach Professional, you will gather supplies needed and distribute harm reduction, food & water, and survival supplies.

You will be available as a listening ear and resource for visitors of the CTA, build rapport in a non-judgmental way, and enter data in an accurate and timely manner.

Hours are Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 : 00 pm-1 : 00 am. You must have dependable transportation, and CTA is limited after hours.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CTA OUTREACH PROFESSIONAL

• One year of experience doing outreach work with the homeless or similar relevant experience.
• Valid driver's license, evidence of insurability, and ability and willingness to drive outreach vehicles. Must have access to a car.
• Self-starter with demonstrated interpersonal skills and a clear sense of professional
• Physically able to walk and / or stand, in all seasons, for as long as six consecutive hours.
• Must be comfortable working with diverse faith traditions in a nonjudgmental manner.
• Ability to respond calmly to emergencies and to quickly assess and respond safely and appropriately to Night Ministry policies.
• Comfortable working with homeless people, sex workers (all genders), youth, people from many ethnic and racial communities, and people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender
• Collaborate to locate, create, and maintain relationships with the homeless through outreach.
• Street smarts are able to work comfortably in all Chicago neighborhoods.
• Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
• Employees must meet mandatory vaccination requirements as set forth by the State of Illinois.
