Job description

Financial Planning Strategy Role

This role is responsible for defining the strategy for financial planning in alignment with Truist's goals. This includes identification of the financial planning needs for Wealth and Premier and aligning resources to effectively execute those objectives. Responsible for ensuring technology choices align with this strategy and will collaborate with digital teams to ensure that delivery of solutions that enable successful outcomes. Will also lead a team of Financial Planning Consultants in the coordination, development, delivery and implementation of financial planning training and support to advisors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Develop the strategy for financial planning including is the meaningful definition of a "plan" based on client segment or complexity, delivery channel or other variables.
  • Selection of technology and platform to execute on the strategy determine if current applications are meeting our needs, delivering as promised and integrated for optimal performance. Establish roadmap to remediate any deficiencies or gaps. Execute in collaboration with client-facing, Digital and Platform teams.
  • Enable advisor-led planning to include : development and delivery of training curriculum, serving as an inbound resource to support client-facing teammates (FAs, FCs, WAs, PBs) regarding planning questions and how-to on functionality
  • Lead a team of Financial Planning Strategic Consultants
  • Establish personal and team goals and ensure they are achieved
  • Hire, manage, coach and retain top talent
  • Establish annual objectives. Coach the team toward the achievement of those objectives. Fairly and justly rate performance using the performance review process and feedback; rewarding results through praise, recognition, compensation and promotions.
  • Close collaboration with Financial Advisor, Wealth Advisor and Premier Banking to ensure alignment on planning strategy and support for advisor-led planning.
  • Collaborate with Wealth Strategist team to ensure Wealth Strategist and Financial Planning teams are aligned to each other and with overall Wealth strategy. Ensure alignment of the continuum of client experience and teammate enablement across client segments and technology toolset.
  • Collaboration with Digital and Platform teams to ensure delivery of target client and teammate experiences; Digital and Platform teams are on point for execution.
  • Content creation - partner with Wealth Strategist and National Sales Content teams to ensure effective development and delivery of planning thought leadership. Maximize synergies with IAG content team, sharing of best practices and process improvement with Compliance, Nat'l Sales Content and Marketing groups.
  • Business reporting and analytics to track progress toward planning goals and business impact. Execute with appropriate controls, compliance and risk mitigation.

Qualifications :

Required Qualifications :

  • Knowledgeable in financial planning, related planning platforms, and industry trends.
  • Adept at developing and leading conceptual strategies, delivering implementation solutions, while still providing "hands on" implementation support.
  • Ability to influence across constituents with differing priorities, adept at managing ambiguity and conflicting priorities
  • Able to lead and inspire a team to successful outcomes; may be called on to be a player / coach
  • College degree
  • Expert communication, facilitation and presentation skills.
  • 8-15 years of leadership experience in financial planning, practice management, coaching, product or similar wealth management experience
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, including excellent professional presence, effective at building relationships with colleagues across multiple business lines, coaching and development, and team members to ensure success of business initiatives.
  • Ability to function as member of a team and comfortably interact with Fortune 100 managers and executives
  • Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities, multi-tasking
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Specialist level knowledge of financial planning, practice management, consultative selling, and performance coaching techniques and their application in retirement, investment and personal financial planning.
  • Uses a consultative approach to customer's business needs, is able to develop and present appropriate recommendations and consistently provides solutions for performance issues and goals.
  • Strong applicable business knowledge and experience, both strategic and tactical
  • Assist management in the evaluation of program effectiveness.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively with quantitative and qualitative problem solving skills
  • Specialist level knowledge of change management, adult learning theories and facilitation techniques.
  • Client service techniques and sales concepts sufficient to inspire more sales of appropriate products.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
