Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med / Surg RN with an active IL license and BLS certification for day shifts at an acute care Level I trauma and Magnet facility.

Responsibilities

Work in a Medical Surgical unit within an acute care hospital

Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated environment

Day shifts, three 12-hour shifts per week (6 : 45am–7 : 15pm)

Required to work every other weekend, with additional makeup shifts if time off falls on a weekend

Nurse may float within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals as needed

Patient ratios may be up to 1 : 7, although this is uncommon

Must be willing to care for tracheostomy and laryngectomy patients

PICC line management and IV starting required

Cerner charting system is used; experience preferred

First time travelers are welcome to apply

Locals are accepted and there is no minimum distance requirement

Employees previously in permanent or PRN roles at this health system must have a 12-month separation before applying as a traveler

Scrub attire of any solid color is permitted

Parking permit is required but provided at no cost

Must complete modules virtually on the first day of assignment

Holiday scheduling requires working 2 out of 3 major holidays; only one winter holiday off may be requested

Requested time off is reviewed and approved at the manager's discretion

Requirements

Active IL RN license required at time of application

Current BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross only)

Minimum of 2 years of recent Med / Surg RN experience required

Experience with PICC line management and starting IVs required

Must be willing to float as needed

Must be willing to manage trach and laryngectomy patients

Cerner EMR experience preferred
