About This Opportunity :

The Shelter Program Director assumes the day-to-day management of a cluster of family homeless shelter facilities within a designated region (North or South).

Their role encompasses providing innovative and strategic leadership across various aspects including shelter management, case management services, shelter programming, and operations.

The Director collaborates closely with community partners, governmental bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure the efficient coordination of resources and services.

Moreover, the Director is tasked with overseeing the personnel and performance of shelter staff.

Key Responsibilities :

  • The Shelter Program Director is responsible for supporting the overall operations of assigned shelters which includes staffing, policies and procedures, coordination of services including transportation, food, social services, provider relationships, liaison with state counterparts, local officials, and overall shelter logistics.
  • The Shelter Program Director assumes primary responsibility for overseeing the interviewing, hiring, supervision, evaluation, and termination of staff in the agency’s shelter program with support from the shelter management team.
  • In coordination with the Director of Shelter Operations, support the adherence to all contractual agreements with vendors and property ownership to ensure families are living in a safe and respectful environment.
  • The Shelter Program Director engage staff to prioritize exiting families into permanent housing while meeting the needs of families who are experiencing homelessness.
  • Responsible for coordinating all staff and shelter house meetings for assigned sites in partnership with the Shelter Leadership Team.
  • In coordination with the Director of Shelter Case Management, provide support around housing placements and compliance with data entry requirements to use data-driven methods, ensure all current and future shelter programming is effective;

monitor and evaluate programs on an ongoing basis.

  • The Shelter Program Director is responsible for meeting or exceeding all regulatory and contractual obligations with funding sources and partners.
  • Responsible for the implementation, documentation, and effectiveness of all operating systems.
  • Required to actively participate in a variety of weekly and monthly regional and state emergency shelter and provider meetings.
  • Ensure personnel policies and procedures of Making Opportunity Count are implemented in a consistent, fair, and equitable manner.
  • The Shelter Program Director engage staff and volunteers in strategies to integrate values of diversity and inclusion into programs and ensure cultural and linguistic services.
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship either directly or indirectly with key strategic partners / providers and funders including but not limited to Police, Fire, Emergency Response Team, state agencies, local hospitals and clinics, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate as an active member on various state and local committees and boards, as assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining a 24 / 7 staffing level for all sites.
  • The Shelter Program Director serves as the Grievance Officer for assigned sites.
  • On-call responsibilities to meet the needs of shelter operations
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring :

  • Bachelor’s degree in human service field,
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory and administrative experience overseeing programmatic operations.
  • Minimum 5 years of human service experience.
  • Experience in shelter and / or housing management and operations is required.
  • Experience developing culturally and linguistically diverse programs for individuals and families from diverse socio-economic, racial, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds
  • Multilingual or bilingual skills a plus.
  • Excellent people skills and ability to work within an intergenerational and diverse environment.
  • Skilled in organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders and manage risk.
  • Ability to successfully structure, drive, or facilitate decision-making processes, including those with conflicting priorities.
  • Adaptable in the face of a changing and demanding environment.

Physical Requirements :

  • Commute between shelter sites.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
