Utility Equipment Operator

Now hiring! We’re looking for a Utility Operator for an outstanding local municipality to help operate and maintain the water distribution system.

This is a great opportunity to take advantage of the growth that’s happening all over the Greater Austin area. Cities are growing fast!

The Major job duties for this position include repairing leaks and performing maintenance on many different parts of the water system.

Learn to operate related machinery such as backhoes, dump trucks, etc.

Work schedule : 8 : 00 AM 5 : 00 PM, Monday through Friday, 6 : 30 AM - 4 : 30 PM Monday through Thursday

Pay rate : $17.98+ depending on experience

What we’re looking for :

• Must be able to physically dig into the ground using tools to access utility lines
• Ability to enter confined spaces
• Ability to operate a backhoe, dump truck, pump truck, hydro-jet, hand and power tools
• Ability to operate electronic leak correlator and acoustic leak sounding system
• Ability to give and follow clear instructions
• Good communication skills
• Punctual, reliable, dependable
• High school diploma or GED may be substituted for applicable work experience

Job highlights :

• Repair water and sewer leaks by digging holes and trenches, using backhoes and other equipment, and placing necessary shoring
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on water and sewer lines by unclogging lines using hydro-jets, routers, and hand tools, exercising and / or replacing valves, repairing lift station pumps, testing for low water pressure
• Perform utility line locates
• Perform leak site dress-up
• Run new main feeders and service lines
• Read and maintain various flow meters, water interconnects, meters / gauges at lift stations, water booster stations, and other utility appurtenances
• Repair water lines in city buildings
• Maintain grounds at field operations, lift stations, booster stations, plants, and other facilities
• Perform chlorine tests on new lines
• Clear brush, trees, and other road debris from city streets and place barricades at low water crossing during heavy rains
