Summary
Under the supervision of the Director, the After Care teacher is responsible for assisting in the creation of an environment that promotes the social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth of the children in their assigned classroom. She / he should serve as a team partner in developing creative lesson plans and implementing them within the classroom.
The Aftercare teacher must work in cooperation with Deep Creek Baptist Church, center administration, center staff, parents and the Deep Creek community.
Duties
Arrive to work, meetings and training sessions promptly.
- Display professionalism in punctuality, mannerisms, and attire.
- Assist in the presentation of appropriate lesson plans
- Supervise all classroom and daily routine activities.
- Assist teacher in all daily preparation work and clean-up of rooms.
- Establish and maintains a positive working relationship with parents and other staff members.
- Establish a nurturing relationship with the children in addition to serving as a positive role model.
- Treat children in a positive manner that encourages individuality and positive self-esteem.
- Familiarize self with DCA Staff Handbook and abide by the policies and procedures.
- Responsible for completing designated preschool housekeeping duties.
- Acquire a minimum of 16 hours of training during the school-year calendar year of employment.
- Inform Lead Teacher D of any problems, conflicts or program concerns in a professional manner.
- Responsible for keeping class attendance, emergency, medical for each child.
- Thoroughly complete accident reports before the end of the day of the accident for parent signature.
- Maintain all general knowledge of State Licensing Standards from VA / DSS.
- Treat parental complaints or issues with the utmost attention. Is courteous in all cases.
- Maintain CPR / First Aid Certification
- Perform all tasks within the rules and guidelines of Deep Creek Academy.
- Work as a team player with co-workers.
Requirements
The staff member must be able to :
Communicate effectively with children, parents and staff.Supervise children and move throughout the classroom and outdoors.Walk a flight of stairs.Retrieve needed supplies and work with children.Pick up children when needed.Work with and communicate with children at their level and keep the classroom well organized and clean from clutter.Observe and implement classroom safety and management guidelines.Establish rapport and adjust cognitive patterns for persons from a wide variety of ages and backgrounds and needs.Exhibit good problem solving abilities, be flexible and organized.Meet the physical demands of the job while showing good judgement and safety awareness.Establish nurturing relationships with children and serve as a positive role model.Treat children in a gentle and positive manner while encouraging individuality and positive self-esteem.Able to lift 50 poundsAble to walk, bend, stand, squat, or sit on the floor (with children) thorough an 8 hour dayAble to respond quickly in an emergencyUnderstand the risk of exposure to blood and bodily fluids and use universal precautions in such instances
