Position Summary
Schafer Gear Works in Roscoe, IL is seeking a 1st Shift Quality Control Technician to join our quality assurance team. The technician will play a key role in inspecting in-process, incoming, and finished goods to ensure strict adherence to dimensional, functional, and visual quality standards. The successful candidate will support process control, maintain documentation, and promote continuous improvement across operations.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection Duties :
Perform in-process and final inspections using visual, dimensional, and functional evaluation techniquesMaintain proper documentation of inspection results and non-conformancesInspect prototypes and special setups, assist with set-up verification, and manage the movement of materials in and out of the labConduct receiving inspections on incoming materials, including certification verification and MRP system entryManage and calibrate inspection tools, gauges, and measurement equipmentProcess Control Support :
Assist in the development and maintenance of Quality Management System (QMS) documentationIdentify and implement process improvements to increase product and system capabilityParticipate in product testing, troubleshooting, and team-based improvement initiativesDocumentation and Communication :
Ensure proper labeling of inspected materialsMaintain accurate records of inspections, certifications, and calibrationCommunicate inspection results and any quality concerns effectively to the quality and production teamsQualifications
High school diploma or GED required; two or more years of experience as a quality technician in metalworking preferredFamiliarity with gear metrology and gear nomenclature is a plusAbility to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical proceduresSkilled in the use of Microsoft Office and quality data collection systemsCertification such as ASQ-CQI or ASQ-CQT preferredStrong organizational skills and attention to detailMeasurement Tools Experience
Candidates should be proficient in the use of various tools and systems including :
Calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, thread and plug gagesOptical comparators and profile projectorsCoordinate Measurement Machines (CMM)Gear inspection tools (computerized gear checkers, Vari-roll, M&M fixtures)Sunnen ID gages, Marposs, air gages, hardness testersSurface plate methods and equipmentWorking Environment
