Base pay range : $290,000.00 / yr - $310,000.00 / yr

Overview

The Sr Director of Software and Embedded Systems will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for driving the strategy, development, and execution of all software and embedded systems efforts. This role will span instrument control software, firmware, and electronic hardware development, ensuring seamless integration between hardware and software while meeting the performance, reliability, and regulatory standards of our products. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in fast-paced start-up environments, can architect scalable systems, and has experience building and managing world-class engineering teams. This person will play a key role in developing the software architecture that underpins a novel technology ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance from R&D through commercialization.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic & Technical Leadership
• Define and execute the software, firmware, FPGA, and electronic hardware strategy aligned with product and business goals.
• Partner with the executive team to ensure technology decisions support company milestones and customer needs.
• Serve as the subject-matter expert on embedded systems, hardware / software integration, and product architecture.
• Team Building & Management
• Recruit, lead, and mentor a cross-functional engineering team spanning software, firmware, FPGA, and hardware disciplines.
• Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on innovation, accountability, and quality.
• Engineering Execution
• Oversee the development of instrument control software to ensure performance, usability, and scalability.
• Direct firmware and FPGA design to enable real-time control, data acquisition, and signal processing.
• Guide electronic hardware design, prototyping, and validation, ensuring reliability and manufacturability.
• Establish development processes including testing, documentation, version control, and system integration best practices.
• Product Quality & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulatory frameworks, and cybersecurity requirements.
• Implement processes for continuous improvement, risk management, and system validation.
