Description :
This position performs diagnostic ultrasound imaging, including a variety of procedures ranging from biopsies to routine OB / GYN, vascular venous and arterial, abdomen, small body parts, intra-cavity, and color Doppler.
The technologist must have strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills with the ability to problem-solve.
They will assume responsibility for the safety and comfort of patients in their care.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to effectively instruct patients who may be under physical or emotional stress.
The technologist must be able to comprehend and follow physicians' verbal orders and imaging protocols.
They should be capable of working productively within a complex environment involving inpatient, emergency department, and outpatient circumstances, multitasking with changing priorities.
The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for obtaining patient information such as identity and history.
They will review medical records for exam appropriateness and ensure documentation accuracy.
Technologists must maintain high standards of medical ethics and show self-motivation to pursue lifelong learning in the field.
They are expected to provide excellent customer service.
Responsibilities include producing quality images by selecting appropriate technical factors, equipment, and transducer settings.
The technologist verifies patient orders and reviews them for appropriateness, obtains patient history, explains procedures, and addresses patient concerns to foster comfort and confidence.
They determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes and use independent judgment to differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
The technologist will operate sonographic equipment independently, perform diagnostics, communicate findings, and handle daily operations of the department.
This includes patient scheduling, equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and conducting quality assessments.
They must maintain a clean work environment and ensure adequate supplies are available.
Additionally, they are responsible for appropriate sterilization techniques and maintaining documentation accuracy of logs, charts, forms, and records.
Compliance with all regulatory laws, standards, and protocols is essential.
