The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) at the University of Florida (UF) invites applicants for the position of Director of the Nuclear Engineering (NE) Program.

The Role : The Director for the NE program supervises the program and bears the responsibility for upholding program excellence.

As a steward of excellence in the academic, research, and service endeavors of the program and the leader of a diverse, interdisciplinary community of students, faculty, and staff, responsibilities will encompass :

  • Crafting a forward-looking vision for the program's growth and advancement in every facet of academic and research excellence.
  • Elevating the program's profile through strategic partnerships with industry.
  • Enhancing the academic program's reputation through strategic collaborations, outreach, and achievements to foster increased peer engagement and recognition.
  • Spearheading innovative, cross-disciplinary, and collaborative research initiatives.
  • Implementing a targeted outreach strategy to foster increased collaboration and partnership opportunities, encouraging external stakeholders to proactively seek collaboration on research proposals and initiatives with our nuclear engineering program.
  • Fostering an environment that promotes inclusivity and professional growth amongst faculty, students, and staff.

The Program : As the sole NE program in Florida, housed within the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, we offer :

  • A leading-edge faculty with expertise spanning nuclear fuels and materials, nuclear security, plasma physics, reactor physics & thermal hydraulics, and radiochemistry.
  • A vibrant community with undergraduate and graduate students, supported by faculty members, including 9 tenured / tenure-track positions.
  • A robust research ecosystem with annual contracts and grants expenditures exceeding $3.5 million.

Expected Salary :

Salary to commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements :

A Ph.D. in nuclear engineering or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications :

A proven track record in research, teaching, service, management, and leadership. At least six years of post-graduate research experience, with a preference for candidates demonstrating substantial contributions to both undergraduate and graduate education as well as leadership in their field and the nuclear engineering community.
