SUMMARY

The Director of Camping Services serves as the primary administrator, manager, and supervisor of statewide programs within Camping Services.

The Director of Camping Services is responsible for program development, personnel, facilities, contracts, fees for services, and other program related matters in the assigned area of service.

This position is part of the management team.

The Director of Camping Services is directly responsible to the Vice President Programs.

This position is not eligible for overtime pay.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are given as examples of the various types of work performed in this position. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Coordinates recruitment, selection, employment, and release of assigned personnel, as well as their orientation, training, regularly scheduled supervisory conferences, and annual performance evaluations.

Manages budget, expenditures, and revenue generating activity relating to Camping Services to ensure that resources are maximized, and that all programs are fiscally accountable.

Markets, negotiates, manages, and coordinates rate agreements and contracts with our community-based care partners and other local agencies.

Responsible for participating with Main Office Department Heads in planning new physical structures or modifications of present buildings and reviewing architectural plans for conformity to childcare standards and operating efficiency.

Enthusiastically supports and works with Donor Relations staff of the agency to ensure that donors, Sheriffs, and other stakeholders are cared for and supervised in a timely, high-quality fashion.

Responsible for making visitors, both individuals and groups, feel welcome and comfortable when visiting the programs and for presenting the Camping Services program and other Youth Ranches services to the public through radio, television, and group appearances as required and requested.

Oversees Camp Directors and Coordinators who are responsible for all campus program activities and functions. Also oversees the coordination of activities with other Youth Ranches programs, schools, other institutions, related agencies, and governmental bodies.

Responsible for all licensing, accreditation, and ensuring that other standards for assigned programs and services are met;

including ensuring that all program reports are made in a timely manner to the Vice President Programs and for keeping the Vice President Programs informed of problem areas.

Responsible for the development of additional statewide services that fit the mission of the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches, Inc.

Also oversees the development of manuals necessary for Camping Services.

Responsible for the public image of the program and for ensuring that all equipment, buildings, grounds, and vehicles, are maintained in an attractive and / or functional manner.

Represents Camping Services and other Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches programs on a statewide basis through Youth Ranches work groups, task forces, or other meetings.

Maintains involvement and relations in statewide and national camp and youth related associations.

Acts as a legislative liaison in matters regarding the Camping program and its services.

Other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A master's degree in Camp Management Administration or Outdoor Recreation from an accredited college or university is preferred.

A bachelor's degree will be acceptable only if it is accompanied with a minimum of 5 years of previous employment within the camping industry.

A minimum of five (5) years in a social service setting, with at least three (3) years being the administrative or supervisory setting component will be given preference.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each area of responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, and / or abilities required.

Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and complex governmental regulations (i.

e., ability to write reports, proposals, policy, business correspondence, and procedural manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups).

Must have the ability to write legibly and document necessary information accurately.

Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions (i.e., ability to interpret extensive variety of instructions;

ability to deal with problems involving a variety of situations).

Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage, as well as other basic statistical computations.

Must be well organized, attentive to details, and task oriented.

Must have a general orientation to the basic understanding of the use of computers and other technology in the human services field.

This includes basic knowledge in the use of word processing, databases, spread sheets, and other PC software applications.

Must have the ability to train all levels of staff in policies, procedures, and techniques related to their duties and responsibilities.

Must be creative and entrepreneurial in approach to human services, while maintaining a deep respect and appreciation for the roots, saga, and agency history.

Must have the ability to positively represent the agency in a variety of settings, including meetings with other human services agencies, law enforcement agencies, donors, state or national associations, business, and other publics.

10. Must have a valid Florida Driver License and be able to maintain a safe driving record consistent with agency policy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical requirements described are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee may occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is required to live on campus unless approved otherwise by the FSYR President.

Employees are required to travel to meetings throughout the state while performing assigned duties. Overnight travel will be a necessity.

The employee may be required to work in an outdoor setting and at times in adverse weather conditions.
