Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician
This National Guard position is for an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, Position Description Number D1674000 and is part of the Oregon Air National Guard 142nd Wing, National Guard. Responsibilities As an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, WG-6501-11, this position is located in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Flight of the Civil Engineering Squadron Mission Support Group of an Air National Guard aviation wing. The EOD Flight is a highly specialized organization comprised of uniquely qualified individuals. The EOD position provides force protection to Department of Defense (DoD) Installations and state and local governments on a 24-hour basis. The position provides the capability of detection, identification, evaluation, rendering safe, recovery, and disposal of explosive items that are hazardous to operations, facilities, or personnel.
Responsibilities include : (1) remaining technically qualified through constant training and authorized to undertake and perform or assist in procedures to ensure the rendering safe and disposal of high explosive ordnance and special weapons; (2) utilizing and reviewing current methods and techniques and determining new and innovative procedures employed in the detection, identification, safest method of handling, rendering safe, and / or destruction of domestic or foreign explosive hazards; (3) organizing and conducting area reconnaissance for detection and identification of unexploded ordnance; (4) operating and interpreting radiological detection and other specialized instruments while monitoring areas adjacent to unexploded ordnances or criminal / terrorist devices suspected of containing toxic or radioactive contamination; (5) providing guidance to and coordinating with key staff members of the Disaster Control Group and the Survival Recovery Center in the development of emergency planning procedures and policies; (6) routinely assisting and providing technical advice, procedures, and / or training for state and local civil authorities through classroom instruction and development of Memorandum's of Understanding; (7) performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements include : General and Specialized Experience Qualification Requirements, Work in the WG-6501 series may include occupations involved in the manufacturing, assembling, disassembling, renovating, loading, deactivating, modifying, destroying, testing, handling, placing, and discharging of ammunition, propellants, chemicals and toxic materials, and other conventional and special munitions and explosives. Work may involve detection, identification, evaluation, rendering safe recovery, and disposal of explosive items which are hazardous to operations, facilities, or personnel. Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to use and maintain tools and equipment associated with the type of work to be done, and to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Experience which demonstrates the knowledge of and the ability to apply safety standards.
