Inspector Housing II

Perform inspections in unusual or controversial cases to ensure compliance with City Ordinances, including rental dwelling license ordinance and issue orders to correct any deficiencies. Work Location - This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work with some days working remotely and some days working in the office. The City of Minneapolis does not sponsor applicants for work visas.

Job Duties and Responsibilities :

• Respond to complaints and inspect assigned buildings and premises for compliance with the Housing Maintenance Code and related Ordinances.
• Make thorough inspections of buildings referred as having serious structural, housing or mechanical defects and follow-up on violation orders to correct deficiencies noted, both interior and exterior of all applicable City codes.
• Re-inspect buildings on which orders have been issued working with owners in an advisory capacity to assist as needed to remedy violations and bring building into compliance.
• Recommend issuance or suspension, revocation or denial of the rental dwelling license.
• Issue violation tags and compile necessary information for formal complaints, appeals and court hearings as required.
• Appear at hearings, appeal boards, neighborhood groups, Council meetings, etc. as required or requested on inspection related matters.
• Cooperate with Hazardous Building section to develop history leading to demolition of structures deemed to be hazardous and / or a public nuisance.
• Work with other departments and agencies to assist in assessing their services for owners of rental property.
• Present the department's position on orders appealed to the Housing Board of Appeals.
• Act as a liaison between Inspections teams, Council Members and the media presenting information about housing activities and programs.
• Assist in training and recommend ordinance revisions.

Working Conditions : Office and field with exposure to hazardous conditions; Conducts inspections at various sites, which could involve traveling between locations and climbing stairs to access different areas.

Required Qualifications :

An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position may be considered.
