Overview

Relay Graduate School of Education (Relay) is an accredited not-for-profit institution of higher education serving thousands of educators from across the country, from pre-service teachers to system-level leaders. Our mission is to ensure that all students are taught by excellent educators, in order to build a more just world where every student has a clear path to a fulfilling life.

The Professor, Curriculum Design, Secondary Mathematics plays a key role in designing and revising courses, while also teaching a subset of students each term. Reporting to the Department Chair, Secondary Mathematics, this role will evolve in alignment with Relay's broader programmatic shifts. The professor will contribute to Relay's overall approach to teacher preparation and must be adaptable in a dynamic, evolving landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Design Leadership (40%)
  • Design engaging, accessible asynchronous and synchronous learning experiences grounded in adult learning and culturally responsive pedagogy.

  • Revise course content based on student feedback, performance data, and faculty insights.
  • Collaborate with faculty, instructional designers, and the accreditation team to ensure alignment with state standards, certification requirements, and accreditation guidelines.
  • Monitor evolving state and national requirements and update courses to maintain compliance.
  • Gather and incorporate feedback from students, faculty, and staff to continuously improve program quality and effectiveness.
  • Teaching Responsibilities (40%)
  • Teach 1–3 Secondary Mathematics courses per term to cohorts of approximately 50 students.

  • Adapt to flexible teaching schedules, including evening classes (Tuesdays / Thursdays, 5 : 30–8 : 00 p.m. CT) and occasional Saturdays.
  • Engage in peer observation cycles and provide / receive constructive feedback to strengthen teaching practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum implementation and share best practices.
  • Support students with timely feedback, academic guidance, and access to relevant learning resources.
  • Center Student Experience (15%)
  • Develop and implement strategies to create positive and supportive learning environments in all department courses and programs.

  • Ensure all department courses align with organizational mission and vision statements.
  • Design and deliver courses that prioritize student needs, learning preferences, and feedback.
  • Solicit student feedback regularly and adjust course content and delivery accordingly.
  • Implement data-informed improvements to enhance student engagement, learning, and satisfaction.
  • Institutional Service (5%)
  • Serve the institution through committee, working group, and / or board membership.

    Additionally, for this position, we're looking for candidates who possess a combination of the following skills :

    Minimum Qualifications :

  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum design.
  • 5 years of classroom teaching experience in Secondary Mathematics (Grades 7-12).
  • Graduate degree (masters or doctorate) in a relevant educational field.
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in Secondary Mathematics.
  • Experience teaching or coaching adult learners through collegiate courses or school-based professional development.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to build collegial relationships with diverse individuals and teams.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to synthesize information from various sources.
  • Availability to teach two nights a week and up to two Saturdays per term.
  • Highly Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience with online teaching and / or curriculum design.
  • Knowledge of current research focused on mathematical modeling and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Understanding of the evolving educator preparation landscape nationwide.
  • Engagement with national education organizations.
  • Compensation and Benefits

    The salary range for this role is $87,057-105,339. New hires will be offered a salary at the starting point of the range, $87,057, to allow for an equitable starting salary process and continual salary growth during an employee's time at Relay GSE.

    Internal pay equity : Relay does not currently differentiate starting salary offers based on years of experience; all staff salaries will be capped at the salary range maximum; Relay does not negotiate salary offers.
