Description :
The Nurse Shift Manager is a Registered Nurse responsible for overseeing patient care and administrative activities in their respective department.
The Nurse Shift Manager will continually evaluate quality and effectiveness of patient care practices and delivery.
Medical and clinical knowledge, technical skills, clinical judgment, interpersonal skills, and communication skills are essential components of nursing management.
Promotes staffing compliance and ensures safe staffing assignments.
Monitors staffing to achieve productivity and budget standards.
The Nurse Shift Manager acts within the scope and standards of practice set by the American Nurses Association and any professional organizations specific to specialty.
Has the ability to hire, coach, counsel, evaluate, and discipline staff.
Responsible for assigning work, duties, and responsibilities, directing staff, and exercising independent judgment.
Develops, revises, and ensures compliance with departmental policy, procedures, standards of care, and professional practice acts.
Serves as a clinical and administrative resource to others while providing leadership expertise.
The unit comprises 27 beds with a target of two nurse aides per shift.
Ratios are 1 to 5 for medical-surgical patients and 1 to 4 for chemotherapy / telemetry patients.
No acute strokes or acute cardiac cases are present.
Patients may require monitoring but not active on chemotherapy.
Common diagnoses include general medical-surgical, GYN, appendicitis, cholecystectomy, spine cases, and some joint cases.
The Nurse Shift Manager will float to other medical-surgical units as needed.
A floor-specific orientation includes one shift for charting and two shifts on units, if needed.
Call responsibilities are not required.
All telecommunication is managed remotely with monitoring technicians.
The goal is to provide high-quality, compassionate care while ensuring patient and staff safety.
