Your Opportunity
The Digital Practice Leader (DPL) is responsible for advancing and optimizing the organization's engagement with technology related to the design, delivery, and execution of work. This involves implementing innovative approaches, applied technology, process changes, and automation. The position guides the BOU through various aspects of digital transformation, leading the integration of digital technologies to improve efficiency, customer experience, and achieve our business outcomes.
The DPL establishes the BOU's technology strategy, collaborates with the innovation office and IT, and oversees digital practice experts within their team and influences Digital practitioners across the BOU involved in business optimization, digital delivery, solution development, and practice support for client delivery. The role also works with other leaders to support technological advancement and project delivery processes.
This position can be located in any Stantec office in Canada or the US.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Acumen- Assess technical, operational, and economic factors to identify constraints or risks associated with the proposal, development and implementation of digital tools and technologies.
- Assess the economic impact of digital initiatives, ensuring alignment with financial goals and measurable ROI. Develop business cases, budgeting, cost recovery models and performance tracking.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate the performance of digital initiatives to ensure they meet expected outcomes and deliver ROI; adjust strategies to optimize results.
- Leadership, Facilitation and Collaboration- Build relationships with internal stakeholders, cross-functional teams, and external partners; facilitate collaboration to drive digital initiatives forward; align technology focus, standards, and security requirements.
- Develop a robust digital strategy for the BOU that aligns with organizational goals; utilize advanced data analytics to inform decisions and drive process optimization and innovation.
- Ensure digital governance, security, and privacy are maintained to high standards; establish a framework for the full lifecycle of digital transformation initiatives.
- Change Management- Define standards for Digital Products / Assets / Solutions; maintain an inventory shared across the BOU and Stantec.
- Lead organizational change to embed digital capabilities; design and implement training and development to upskill employees.
- Forward Looking- Conduct market research to identify trends and opportunities; analyze competitor strategies to inform initiatives and maintain competitive edge.
- Regularly assess and adjust the strategy for continued relevance in a dynamic digital landscape.
- Digital background in the AEC industry- Experience in working with the business to identify and set standards within the AEC industry.
- Leverage digital tools to improve customer engagement and satisfaction; create seamless experiences across digital touchpoints.
- Undertake feasibility studies for proposed digital initiatives.

Enhance our Practice - Collaborate with corporate initiatives, other BOUs, and the Innovation Office.Participate on the Buildings Leadership Team and collaborate with leadership to improve innovation strategies and tools that differentiate us in major pursuits.Position the Stantec Buildings practice platform as a preferred employer for staff recruitment and retention.Advance inclusion practices to maximize human potential.People Leadership - Inspire, advise, and support the business; engage in resource management, career development, engagement, succession planning, coaching, mentoring, and leadership development.Attract talent and develop technical experts across digital practice services and Building's practice.Inspire and hold the team accountable for delivering innovative and efficient processes and solutions.Identify and support emerging leaders across the organization for growth and advancement.Contribute to Stantec's Safer Together culture, prioritizing health and safety.Project Focus - Collaborate with Sector Leaders to leverage digital expertise across the practice to win and deliver key projects.Impact revenue and utilization through digital transformation initiatives; improve tools and workflows.Work with teams to create and enforce innovative tools, processes, and workflows that increase efficiency and quality.Collaborate with Major Projects to ensure PIM support, identifying risks and mitigation strategies.Financial Management - Assist with developing the annual Digital Practice budget; monitor allocation and provide reviews.Contribute to the annual business plan and budget for Digital Practice / Innovation, outlining goals and priorities.Outreach - Stay informed of marketplace changes in software, hardware, and technology through active involvement in the Digital / BIM / CAD community.Support business development and marketing efforts : presentations, visualizations, interviews, and industry presence.Steward thought leadership to support sectors and clients and enhance Stantec's industry position.Your Capabilities and Credentials
Demonstrated understanding of AEC digital technologies, including cloud computing, data analytics, AI, and cybersecurity; ability to align digital initiatives with BOU goals and industry trends.Strong leadership with the ability to inspire teams, manage stakeholders, and drive organizational change; experience in digital strategy and implementation.Experience developing and managing digital budgets and resources; governance, cybersecurity, and compliance; evaluating market trends to identify opportunities for standard setting and value.Excellent project management, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities in a digital practice team.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across all organizational levels; understanding of project delivery tools and IT security requirements.Forward-thinking with practical experience in ML / AI strategy development for the BOU.Education and Experience
