Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU Float position requiring a CO or compact RN license and critical care certifications.
Responsibilities
Work within the ICU Float Pool across multiple acute care facilities in Colorado Springs, Zone 1Float between various ICU types, including MICU, SICU, TICU, and CVICU, and may float to PCU / Stepdown and MS-Tele units as neededPatient assignments vary from 1 : 1 to 1 : 3 based on acuity, with high acuity patients such as those requiring CRRT, IABP, or Impella devicesCommon patient population includes general critical care casesMust be comfortable titrating all critical drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, heparin, and insulinNight shifts with 12-hour shifts and 6-9 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduleRequired to float within a 60-mile radius in Zone 1; no home base facilityUses Epic EMR systemDesignated charge nurse present who may take a small patient assignment during night shiftsProvide comprehensive critical care for diverse ICU populations, flexing between units as assignedNo nurse aides available except for sitter needsTravelers responsible for securing housing that enables floating throughout the 60-mile zoneAll requested time off must be submitted prior to assignment startMay participate in holiday rotations as assignedOrientation includes 1-2 days with a preceptor; clinicians must be in state for orientation weekAny scrub color is permittedCharge nurses and RTs support the unit, but travelers should be able to manage respiratory equipment independentlyReturning candidates may not have worked for CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health within the past yearTwo professional references required : one supervisor from the last 12 months, one peer or supervisor from the last 3 yearsRequirements
Active CO or compact RN license required at time of application; pending licenses not acceptedMinimum of 2 years of ICU experience required; 3+ years and previous Epic experience required if first time travelerCurrent BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications are requiredMust be comfortable reading and interpreting own telemetry stripsAbility to assist in troubleshooting and managing respiratory needs, including vent, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow equipmentCopy of driver’s license required for considerationMust reside outside a 60-mile radius from the city center of the float zoneBenefits
