Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department position in California requiring current CA RN licensure and advanced certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Emergency Department of an acute care hospital with 19 ED beds, 3 fast track beds, and 2 triage areas
  • Patient population includes standard emergency cases, STEMI, and stroke, with no trauma or teaching responsibilities
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 4
  • 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
  • Floating may occur to other Sacramento facilities, with rare mid-shift floating
  • Bedside report conducted at shift change
  • Cerner is used for electronic charting; experience preferred
  • First to float when needed
  • No ventilator management; telemetry required with EKG interpretation
  • ED support includes a charge RN, nurse aides (including EMTs and paramedics), and 24 / 7 social services
  • Psychiatric holds are managed up front with security support
  • Floor-specific orientation provided for 1–2 days with a preceptor
  • Hospitalist or intensivist, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy available 24 / 7
  • Navy blue scrubs are required; under shirts and jackets must be navy, white, or black
  • Holiday shifts rotate with core staff
  • First-time travelers are accepted
  • Two professional references are required : one supervisor from within the last 12 months and another from a supervisor or peer within the last 3 years

    • Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years recent Emergency Department RN experience required
  • Current certifications : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS are required
  • Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
  • Successful completion of the Dysrhythmia (Relias) exam required prior to acceptance
  • Sterile technique test for Foley catheter and central line dressing changes required during orientation
  • Candidates may not have worked in any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year as a direct employee
