Activity Director (certification required)

The Activity Director is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing a comprehensive activity program designed to meet the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of residents in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position requires recognized certification as an Activity Director and ensures programs promote quality of life and resident engagement within the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and implement an ongoing activity program that addresses the interests and abilities of all residents.

Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including maintaining proper documentation of resident participation and care plans.

Coordinate group activities, special events, outings, and individualized activities.

Assess residents’ needs and preferences through interviews, observation, and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members.

Develop and update resident activity care plans in collaboration with nursing, social services, and therapy departments.

Supervise, train, and schedule activity staff, volunteers, and assistants.

Maintain the activity budget, including purchasing and managing supplies and equipment.

Foster positive relationships with residents, families, and staff to encourage participation and enhance overall well-being.

Ensure safety protocols and infection control procedures are followed during all activities.

Maintain required reports, evaluations, and documentation for compliance and survey readiness.

Qualifications

Current Certification as an Activity Director (recognized by state and federal standards).

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

Previous experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility preferred.

Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

Ability to plan and facilitate diverse programs that meet a wide range of resident interests and needs.
