About the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering

With nearly 3,000 students, more than100 faculty members, and over 80 staff members, the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering is one of the largest mechanical engineering programs in the country. The School is consistently ranked as one of the top 10 mechanical engineering programs in the U.S. at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Job Summary

The College of Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for the position of Chair of the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering. The successful candidate will hold the Eugene C. Gwaltney, Jr. School Chair. The Chair is responsible for leading the intellectual, creative, and scholarly development of the School. The successful candidate will have the vision and strategic skills to lead the School toward higher levels of excellence within a collaborative, and multi-disciplinary environment. Chair candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to faculty / staff development, forming partnerships, and facilitating innovation. They should also have a drive for advancing fundraising initiatives. Strong candidates will have the ability to maximize successes within existing faculty research initiatives in the areas of acoustics and dynamics, AI, informatics, automation, robotics and control, bioengineering, computer-aided engineering and design, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, combustion, and energy systems, manufacturing, mechanics of materials, medical materials, medical physics, micro & nano engineering, nuclear and radiologic engineering, and tribology, as well as demonstrate the ability to develop new research areas. The Chair will also have an opportunity to enhance the School's relationships with other Schools within the College of Engineering and across campus. Candidates for this position must have a doctorate and an international reputation in their field of expertise.

Required Qualifications

Candidates for the position must have an earned doctoral degree in his / her specific discipline(s) with a record of excellence in technical, academic and professional achievements. Candidates must also be eligible for tenure at Georgia Tech at the rank of Full Professor.
