The USC Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to provide teaching and mentoring to undergraduate students in the USC Mann’s undergraduate educational programs. Candidates must be strongly committed to excellence in teaching and curriculum development within the areas of neuropharmacology, addiction science, drug discovery, food science and the translational sciences. The candidate must have a track record in course management and be familiar with curriculum development within professional degree and undergraduate education. The successful candidate must demonstrate ability to use innovative instructional strategies, technologies, and techniques that engage undergraduate students, including interactive, experimental, and practical learning methods. The candidate will work closely with the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education USC Mann to expand the educational opportunities within our growing undergraduate majors and minor offered to USC students with an interest in careers in biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences. Teaching assignments, lecture hours, and specific course and lecture development and content will be discussed with or designated by the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education and/or the course coordinator, consistent with the curricular needs of the degree programs. No administrative or service component is anticipated.
Qualifications and Compensation:
The candidate for this position should have a wealth of professional experiences in area of expertise that is consistent with the needs of the undergraduate program as described above. These real-life lessons brought to the classroom and mentoring settings are invaluable for students gaining knowledge and wisdom in these areas. Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in a relevant field (pharmacology, biochemistry, food science, for example), with emphasis in Drug Discovery/Development related to addiction science, neurodegenerative diseases, food science, and pharmaceutical product development that will allow the candidate to develop and teach within novel experiential programs centered on these and related subjects. The definition of an adjunct faculty member presumes gainful employment outside of USC, with salary and benefits provided the candidate in his/her major professional pursuit. Therefore, these positions are not full- or part-time by university definition and will be remunerated based on a generous established hourly rate, are not benefits eligible nor lead to consideration of tenure. A contract subtending the active engagement teaching period and proposed hours will be provided. Qualified candidates will preferably have demonstrated experience or leadership in diversity and inclusion within their prior academic and professional work environments that they can bring to the education setting. Teaching metrics and performance will be part of the evaluation for reappointment. Undergraduate course content is taught on USC’s University Park Campus in South Central Los Angeles.
