General Description

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (ChemBE) at Johns Hopkins University seeks applicants for a full-time teaching position.

This is a career-oriented, renewable appointment. The title of Lecturer is the entry-level position for a well-defined non-tenure track career path for full-time teaching faculty, culminating in the rank of Teaching Professor or Professor of Practice.

The department will also consider applicants with extensive industrial experience and leadership for a teaching appointment as an Associate Professor of the Practice or as Professor of the Practice.

The focus of the position involves the development and delivery of undergraduate core and elective courses related to the candidate's background, through workshop, lecture, and / or other methodologies.

Candidates with background or experience in product design or process design and ASPEN are strongly preferred. The faculty member will have the opportunity to participate in and contribute to other ChemBE programs, courses, and initiatives appropriate for their expertise.

Teaching faculty members are also encouraged to engage in departmental and university service and may have general advising / mentoring responsibilities.

Opportunities exist for the successful candidate to conduct either independent scientific research or pedagogical research.

Qualifications

A PhD, MS / MSE, or BS in chemical or biological engineering discipline, or closely related field, is desired. The title for the position (Teaching Professor or Professor of the Practice track) will be determined by the degree and relevant experience.

Candidates with product or process design experience, a demonstrated track record of innovation, translational or applied research are especially encouraged to apply.

Teaching experience is required, either in the form of formal education in an academic setting or mentorship and talent development in an industrial setting.

The target of this faculty search is the Lecturer position, but highly qualified applicants may be considered at other levels.

The Whiting School of Engineering has a well-established non-tenure track career path for full-time teaching faculty culminating in the rank of Teaching Professor or Professor of Practice.

The faculty member will join an existing and dynamic group of teaching-track faculty in the department. The target of this faculty search is the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer position with a multi-year renewable contract, commensurate with the candidate's experience and current rank, but highly qualified applicants may be considered at other levels.

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary and benefits options including health and retirement plan participation.

The start date for this position will preferably be Summer 2024 or January 2025 , with a phase-in of teaching duties. Preference will be given to applications received before March 15th 2024, though applications will be accepted and evaluated until the position is filled.
