Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Location : Stratford, CT (Hybrid / minimum 1 day in office) Position Type : Full-Time / Permanent
We're partnering with a mission-driven environmental nonprofit that drives meaningful impact through science, advocacy, litigation, restoration projects, and community engagement. They are seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead all financial strategy, operations, and compliance while serving as a key member of the executive leadership team.
Main responsibilities :
- Lead all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, audits, tax filings, and internal controls
- Partner with the President and Board to develop annual budgets, financial goals, and long-term financial strategy
- Provide timely, actionable financial analysis; assess organizational risks / opportunities; develop scenario models aligned to strategic plans
- Ensure full compliance with private, state, and federal grant requirements, including expenditures, drawdowns, and reporting
- Oversee cash flow, banking relationships, financial transactions, and monthly budget-to-actual reporting
- Manage all accounting functions (GL, AP / AR, payroll, reconciliations) and ensure strong internal controls
- Maintain accurate tracking and reporting of restricted and unrestricted assets
- Lead annual external audit preparation and serve as primary liaison for auditors
Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred2+ years in a CFO or senior finance leadership role with oversight of budgeting, reporting, and strategic financial management5+ years of nonprofit experience, including significant federal and state grant fundingExperience with environmental, advocacy, or mission-driven organizations is a plusIf you meet the minimum requirements and want to learn more, please email your resume and reference AH0013339428.
