Job Overview :

Hoosier Heroes is seeking an experienced Lead Handyman / Estimator to take ownership of residential repair and remodeling projectsfrom quoting to execution. This hybrid position blends skilled hands-on work with leadership and estimating responsibilities. You'll scope and price jobs (both insurance restoration and retail remodels), manage subcontractors or field crews, and step in to handle skilled repairs like fan installations, drywall fixes, and small carpentry tasks. If you have experience with fire / flood restoration, quoting residential work, and leading teams on-site, this is your opportunity to level up in a high-impact, growth-oriented role.

Key Responsibilities :

Conduct in-home inspections and write estimates for both insurance-related and retail remodeling projects.

Assess damage from fire, flood, water, or other insurance-related incidents and create detailed scopes of work (Xactimate software experience is a plus)

Price residential remodeling and handyman repair projects including labor and materials.

Communicate with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to clarify project scope and set expectations.

Manage and coordinate crews to execute approved scopes of work on time and within budget.

Perform light handyman and repair tasks including :

Installing fans, hardware, shelving, and minor electrical fixtures.

Repairing drywall, patching, and painting.

Adjusting or replacing doors, trim, and cabinetry.

Perform quality control checks throughout project duration.

Provide project updates to clients and internal staff.

Bonus : Communicate with insurance adjusters or third-party administrators if needed.

Qualifications :

5+ years of hands-on residential handyman or remodeling experience.

2+ years of experience in project estimatinginsurance or retail work.

Familiarity with fire and flood restoration processes, scopes, and timelines.

Proficient in quoting and pricing residential remodeling work.

Ability to read and write basic scopes of work; Xactimate or similar software is a plus.

Capable of leading crews and subcontractors effectively.

High attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Reliable transportation (truck preferred) and personal toolset required.

High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications a plus.

Schedule :

Full-Time : MondayFriday

Occasional Saturdays or overtime as needed based on project demands

Remote field-based position operating out of Indianapolis, IN, serving clients throughout the metro area
