Within the College of Education, Health, and Society (EHS), the Academic Advisor will be part of the EHS Student Success Center with primary responsibilities for holistic academic advising and support of EHS students.

Job Description

Academic Advisor in the college of Education, Health, and Society (EHS) to serve as part of the EHS Student Success Center with primary responsibilities for holistic academic advising and support of EHS students. This includes : academic planning, connecting advisees with appropriate university resources, communicating relevant information verbally and electronically, and teaching a first year experience or transition course.

Job Duties / Responsibilities : Academically advises caseload of approximately 350 assigned EHS students including but not limited to co-creating degree completion plans and articulating progress, setting and defining goals, identifying course equivalencies at domestic and international institutions, interpreting campus policies and procedures, exploring academic programs and careers, referring to appropriate campus resources, engaging in academic intervention and outreach efforts, and supporting student development and engagement. Assists in recruiting and orienting new and prospective first year and transfer students through individual advising appointments, small group information sessions, and large-scale divisional events. Position allows for opportunities for project-based contributions, cross-training development, and focused work with specific student populations as interests align. Provides ongoing assessment and advising; acts as a resource for faculty; serves on committees / working groups and performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean or Associate Director of Advising.

Minimum Qualifications :

Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years of relevant experience or Master’s Degree.

Consideration may be given to candidates with significant advising and professional experience in an undergraduate program in the area of education, health, or society; a master’s degree; proven understanding of student development theory; experience working with student populations from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences; experience with advising, programming, and project management; excellent written and verbal communication (including public speaking; organization; technological and collaborative skills); familiarity with internet and technological applications used in higher education, such as Banner, uAchieve (degree audits), Student Success Collaborative (Navigate 360), Oracle Business Intelligence, Workday, and Transferology.

After a six-month probationary period and positive evaluation, this position is eligible for remote work (up to 40% of the time or two days a week), as the job permits. Remote work is a working arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason.
