GSE is currently seeking a motivated, self-driven individual to support Department of Homeland Security work. We need a Radiological Engineer who would support the Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Operations Support Directorate (OSD). The OSD develops and enhances CWMD capabilities of DHS components and federal, state, local, territorial, and tribal (FSLTT) partners. OSD engages daily in providing resources for CWMD, including material support, training, CWMD detection, subject matter expertise and maintaining / communicating situational awareness of potential WMD threats.

Work Location : Global Systems Engineering headquarters in Alexandria, VA.

To be qualified, the candidate MUST be a US citizen and be eligible for a Secret Clearance. Existing Secret Clearance preferred.

Responsibilities assigned to this position include :

  • Provide advice and guidance in technical areas of nuclear science requiring extensive interpretation of processes and methods
  • Consult and advise all levels of federal management and technical personnel, including federal staff from other federal agencies
  • Support the OSD Program Support Division (PSD) Securing the Cities (STC) which aims to prevent the successful planning, movement and deployment of radiological and nuclear weapons and component materials with the United States and its territories by enhancing the capabilities of FSLTT agencies to monitor for, prevent, and defend against a nuclear or radiological attack.
  • Assist with task management or Requests for Information received by internal or external entities
  • Assist with outreach efforts, visits and engagements to include planning, coordinating and facilitating events
  • Build, maintain and manage a repository of program support documentation
  • Assist Government leads in the development, implementation, and sustainment of radiological / nuclear detection programs for federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial agencies
  • Coordinate with STC regions, law enforcement and first responder working groups and associations, and other regional partners

Required Qualifications :

  • More than 20 years of experience with a demonstrated knowledge of nuclear sciences and processes and technical aspects and adverse health effects of nuclear and radiological materials
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills necessary to prepare and provide technical briefings and reports in order to prepare and defend policy recommendations, make presentations to management and professional groups, and to coordinate and liaise with representatives from other agencies
  • Experience in managing, planning, conducting and evaluating research and development projects
  • Completion of a course of study resulting in a Masters degree in Nuclear Engineering, Health Physics, or other relevant field with coursework in nuclear physics, radiological controls, etc.
  • Ability to travel domestically within the United States
  • Possession of a valid Drivers License
  • Ability to obtain an Active Secret Security Clearance issued by the Defense Security Service (DSS)
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite tools and ability to learn, comprehend, and utilize other law enforcement / emergency management databases as required
  • Ability to manage time effectively, follow directions, accept constructive criticism, exhibit initiative, and be creative in the accomplishment of any assigned tasks.
