Special Education Teacher (SPED) Job Duties

Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that meet each students specific needs

Adapt lesson plans and instructional materials to accommodate a variety of learning styles and abilities

Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and families to ensure cohesive support for students

Provide direct instruction and interventions in academic, behavioral, and social-emotional areas

Maintain accurate records and documentation in compliance with state and federal guidelines

Participate actively in IEP meetings, evaluations, and professional development activities

Federal and State Requirements

Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or a related field

Active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement required

Knowledge of IDEA and IEP implementation best practices

Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Must pass background checks and fingerprinting per district and state requirements
