Mortgage Loan Originator

About this Position :

Responsible for origination of mortgage loans. Conducts initial pre-qualification interviews and prepares complete loan application packages and necessary documentation. Conveys policies for extension of credit in accordance with Credit Union and Secondary Market guidelines. Meets scheduling and documentation requirements and production expectations as determined by the Lending Manager. Serves members and everyone involved in the process promptly and professionally. Provides general Credit Union information and cross sells services. Assists other loan personnel as necessary.

What You'll Do :

• Interviews, takes applications, and processes preliminary documentation on loan requests. Discusses loan alternatives, credit criteria, interest rates, and loan documentation in such a manner as to elicit positive responses from members.
• Performs follow-up work as necessary to achieve conditional approval within established time frames.
• Notifies member of status of loan throughout all stages of the loan process.
• Advises members of loan approval or denial. Explains loan denials precisely and clearly to members.
• Completes lending operations in accordance with established Credit Union policies and all legal requirement.
• Answers questions and requests; and addresses problems with an emphasis on timely resolution.
• Informs members of Credit Union about loan policies and services
• Counsels members regarding money management and financial matters. Counsels members whose loan requests were denied, explaining reasons and offering alternatives where appropriate
• Maintains and projects the Credit Union's professional reputation.
• Coordinates functions with related departments and Branches and provides support as needed.
• Assists Consumer Loan officers and serves as a backup as needed.
• Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
• Attends and participates in meetings and committees as required.
• Completes required records and reports.
• Professionally cross sells Credit Union services.
• Stays informed regarding changes in lending standards, related legal requirements, and trends in local real estate and competitive market.
• Loan Processing Duties (Secondary Focus)
• Responsible for the processing and document preparation of all mortgage files including portfolio, Fannie Mae and Rural Development loans
• Order / pull disclosures and notify originator to send to borrower
• Order appraisals and title searches
• Request verification of employment, verification of rent and verification of assets, as needed
• Review information for completeness and accuracy. Clarify missing or questionable information with the originator
• Ensure all necessary items are available for underwriting
• Track development of information to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines
• Review conditions of underwriting and communicates with originator to obtain additional information as needed
• Submit loans for final approval to underwriting
• Communicate with the originator regularly. Logs all processing activity in the mortgage / mortgage processing folder of the shared drive
• Ensures work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
• Other duties as assigned.
