Controls Technician III
Location : Brockton, MA
Department : Maintenance
Reports To : Maintenance Manager
Position Summary
The Controls Technician III is responsible for maintaining and improving electrical and control systems within a manufacturing facility. This includes servicing mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic systems essential for production. The role involves training fellow technicians, troubleshooting complex issues, and collaborating closely with the maintenance leadership to ensure production continuity and compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and packaging machinery in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
Perform diagnostics and repairs on equipment involving PLCs, VFDs, servos, and electrical control systems.
Provide guidance and technical training to maintenance staff across multiple shifts.
Coordinate and perform scheduled preventative maintenance and corrective repairs.
Maintain accurate logs and records of work performed and issues identified.
Assist with installation and startup of new equipment and automated systems.
Interpret and update technical documentation including electrical schematics and system diagrams.
Support compliance with safety, food quality, and regulatory policies.
Respond promptly to equipment failures and minimize production downtime.
Use software tools to manage work orders and update maintenance procedures.
Safely perform inspections and repairs during production runs and equipment downtime.
Operate and maintain utilities and secondary support systems such as HVAC, compressed air, and water systems.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in maintenance operations.
Required Qualifications
Formal education or training in electrical or electronic engineering technology.
Proficient with control systems and programming software (e.g., RSLogix, FactoryTalk View).
Strong troubleshooting skills with both electrical and mechanical equipment.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals.
Skilled in handling power systems ranging from 120V to 480V.
Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and servo motor systems.
Competent in preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
Familiar with safety protocols, lockout / tagout procedures, and PPE usage.
Preferred Qualifications
Technical knowledge of mechanical or plumbing systems.
Prior experience working in a food, pharmaceutical, or other regulated manufacturing environment.
Physical & Environmental Conditions
Must be able to stand, walk, climb, and work at heights for extended periods.
Occasionally required to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.
Exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and potentially wet or dusty conditions.
Work performed near moving machinery and under production time constraints.
Food Safety and Quality Compliance
Report any safety, quality, or compliance concerns immediately to supervisory staff.
Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with sanitation and quality standards.
Take responsibility for identifying and preventing potential contamination risks.
