Job Description
The Level II Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Inspector performs inspections and evaluations in accordance with ASNT TC-1A Level II certification requirements for Ultrasonic Testing (UT) – Shear Wave and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT). This position plays a vital role in ensuring structural integrity and quality compliance throughout fabrication and assembly operations by conducting dimensional verification, in-process inspections, and structural quality validation per AWS D1.1 and applicable engineering specifications.

Essential Responsibilities
Inspection & Testing
- Execute Ultrasonic Shear Wave (UT) and Magnetic Particle (MT) examinations following written procedures, applicable codes, and industry standards
- Perform in-process and final inspections on structural weldments, assemblies, and subcomponents to verify compliance with design specifications and engineering drawings
- Conduct dimensional layout inspections using precision measurement tools to verify critical dimensions, fit-ups, and tolerances
- Inspect incoming materials for compliance with purchase orders, Material Test Reports (MTRs), and applicable standards; identify and document nonconformances
Documentation & Quality Systems
Review and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and manufacturing blueprints to ensure conformance throughout fabrication and assembly processesPrepare and maintain accurate inspection reports, NDT records, and traceability documentation in accordance with quality system requirementsSupport development and maintenance of inspection procedures, calibration records, and NDT equipment verification per ASNT standards and internal quality control programsCommunication & Continuous Improvement
Communicate inspection results and quality concerns clearly and effectively to production, engineering, and management teamsSupport continuous improvement initiatives by identifying recurring quality issues and recommending corrective actionsRequired Qualifications
Certification & Experience
Current ASNT TC-1A Level II certification in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Shear Wave and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on NDT experience in structural fabrication, pressure vessel manufacturing, or heavy industrial environmentsTechnical Knowledge
Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – SteelProficiency in ultrasonic shear wave interpretation and defect characterizationExperience with magnetic particle testing techniques including yoke and bench methodsSkilled in dimensional layout and verification using precision instruments such as tapes, levels, micrometers, calipers, and height gaugesAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, weld maps, GD&T symbols, and tolerance calloutsProfessional Skills
Exceptional attention to detail with commitment to documentation accuracy and quality standardsStrong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with production, engineering, and management teamsBasic computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and quality control data systemsPhysical capability to work in manufacturing environments including standing for extended periods, bending, and lifting up to 40 poundsPreferred Qualifications
Experience with manufacturing process control and in-process quality verification methodologiesFamiliarity with API 650, ASME Section VIII, or similar fabrication codes and standardsExperience with digital data capture tools and Quality Management Systems (QMS)Additional NDT certifications in Penetrant Testing (PT), Visual Testing (VT), or Radiographic Testing (RT)Work Environment
Primary work location is fabrication shop floor with potential outdoor exposure depending on project requirementsPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE) required at all times : hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe bootsOccasional overtime or weekend work may be required to meet production schedules and project deadlinesBenefits

Requirements
Minimum Requirements : 10+ years of progressive experience in QA / QC roles within industrial fabrication, pressure vessel manufacturing, or energy-related sectors. Demonstrated leadership experience managing quality programs and inspection teams. Expert-level understanding of ASME Section V, VIII, and IX; API specifications; AWS D1.1; ISO 9001 QMS; and associated codes, standards, and practices. Strong working knowledge of welding processes, NDT methods (MT, PT, UT, RT), and fabrication workflows. Proven ability to interface with certifying authorities (e.g., ASME, NBIC, API, ISO registrars). Bachelor’s degree in engineering, materials science, or industrial technology preferred. ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification strongly preferred. Excellent communication, documentation, and leadership skills.
