The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing a wide range of accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities. This role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial data while also supporting compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. The Senior Accountant also assists with audits, process improvements, and system optimization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and post journal entries and account reconciliations in accordance with GAAP.
- Lead, prepare, and conduct month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, to include tax submission.
- Analyze financial statements for variances and trends; provide explanations to management.
- Manage fixed assets accounting, depreciation schedules, and reconciliations.
- Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including accruals, prepaid expenses, and payroll liabilities.
- Prepare internal and external financial reports.
- Lead and support external and internal audits.
- Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly payroll tax submissions.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
- Partner with HR, Contracts, and Program Management to ensure proper labor and cost allocations.
- Contribute to continuous process improvement and automation efforts within the accounting and finance function.
- Lead and support daily Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions.
Requirements
Required Minimum Education :
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.Required Years of Experience :
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience.Required Skills, Qualifications, Technical Experience, Certifications, etc. :
Strong understanding of GAAP and general ledger processes.Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, or similar ERP systems).Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial reporting tools.Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.Preferred Skills :
CPA or active CPA candidacy.Experience in a government contracting environment (FAR / DFARS knowledge).Familiarity with indirect rate structures, project accounting, and DCAA compliance.Experience with Deltek CostpointBenefits
