Position Overview
The Teen Fitness Instructor is responsible for delivering safe, high-energy, and age-appropriate group fitness classes for teens ages 12–17. This role helps promote physical health, confidence, and healthy habits among youth through fun and inclusive fitness programming. The instructor will lead sessions designed to build strength, endurance, and overall wellness, while also fostering positive peer interaction and motivation.
Ideal candidates will bring experience working with youth or teens in recreational or instructional settings and be skilled at making fitness fun and accessible.
What You Should Bring
We're seeking an enthusiastic and relatable instructor who can engage and inspire teens through movement. The ideal candidate will :
Hold a nationally recognized certification in group fitness or personal training (or be actively pursuing one)
Have prior experience leading youth or teen fitness, recreation, or sports programs
Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and motivational skills
Be confident modifying workouts to match a wide range of abilities
Exhibit reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude
Be comfortable with tracking attendance and working with digital tools

About the Department
The Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities (RPCA) delivers inclusive programs, maintains high-quality public spaces, and promotes wellness across Alexandria. RPCA is a nationally accredited agency through the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA), recognized for excellence in meeting over 150 best practice standards.
Associate degree and four (4) years of experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Experience leading fitness or recreation programs for teens or youth :
CPR and First Aid certification
Ability to adapt fitness activities for diverse needs and abilities
Familiarity with fitness tracking, wellness promotion, or teen engagement strategies
Weekday evening availability is required, especially during afterschool and evening teen programs. Occasional weekend hours for special events may be requested.
