The Opportunity

RTH is seeking a Director of Physical Education, Sports & Aquatics (PES&A) to lead and grow our health and recreation programming. This role is ideal for an experienced and energetic leader who is passionate about health equity, community engagement, and developing creative programs that make a measurable difference in residents' wellbeing.

Reporting to the Director of Youth, Family & Community Engagement, the Director of PES&A will oversee all operations of RTH's physical education, sports, and aquatics programs-including pool and gym management, staff supervision, safety and compliance, and innovative program development.

Key Responsibilities

Lead all aspects of RTH's Physical Education, Sports, and Aquatics programs, ensuring high-quality, inclusive, and safe experiences for residents of all ages and abilities.

Oversee day-to-day operations of the gymnasium and pool, including scheduling, maintenance, and compliance with city and state safety standards.

Recruit, train, and supervise program staff, coaches, lifeguards, and volunteers; ensure all staff maintain required certifications.

Develop and deliver diverse programming-fitness classes, swim lessons, sports leagues, wellness workshops, and family recreation events.

Manage budgets, equipment, and facility use, ensuring programs are efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with RTH's mission.

Collect and analyze program data to evaluate outcomes, improve services, and report to funders and leadership.

Serve as a visible leader, promoting collaboration, customer service, and resident engagement.

Lead CPR / AED and First Aid training for RTH staff.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Exercise Science, or a related field.

Minimum 5 years of experience in physical education, sports, or aquatics program management, including 3 years in a supervisory role .

Current CPR / AED, First Aid Instructor, and Lifeguard Instructor Trainer certifications required .

Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and / or Learn to Swim Instructor certification preferred.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Proven ability to work effectively with diverse communities and foster inclusive participation.

Passion for promoting health, wellness, and community building.

Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
