POSITION : Therapist / Case Manager

DEPARTMENT : Youth Services

DIVISION : Residential Youth Program Center

WORK SCHEDULE : As assigned

SALARY : $2,433.15 Biweekly

Incumbent serves as Therapist / Case Manager for the Tippecanoe County Youth Services, Residential Youth Program Center, responsible for providing clinical care, treatment, and evidence based programming and case management in a residential setting, such as Cary Home for Children, to at-risk youth.

DUTIES :

Facilitates individual, group, and family therapy, including completing assessments on youth, developing treatment plans, and planning and implementing Behavioral Contracts.

Documents time spent performing clinical services and coordinates pass / visit contracts.

Prepares reports on residents and families, such as Medicaid billing as appropriate, progress reports, treatment planning discharge summaries, initial assessments, daily documentation of treatment sessions and various reporting standards in adherence with state and federal guidelines.

Communicates regularly with parents, residential staff, supervisors, clinical staff, placing agencies, and Executive Director in regards to residents within facility.

Serves as liaison with educational providers for residential youth placed at Cary Home for Children.

Evaluates residents, documenting and monitoring behavior, and progress within treatment plan and sessions, such as direct contact with other residents, supportive adults, the community, staff, and family members.

Completes and reports on evaluation materials appropriately, including collecting data of residents during intake, discharge, and follow-up sessions.

Assists with hiring recommendations for clinical and residential employees.

Attends various court proceedings, such as sentencing, modification, restitution, termination, and dispositional hearings.

Testifies in legal proceedings / court as required.

Coordinates transportation for residents using community resources and services.

Participates in case conferences regarding residents and families.

Facilitates evidence based programming, adhering to policies, procedures and reporting standards.

Performs related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS :

Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related field.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Ability to meet all departmental hiring and retention requirements, including passage of medical exam.

Working knowledge of individual, group, and family therapy, including completing assessments on youth, developing treatment plans, and planning and implementing Behavioral Contracts.

Working knowledge of standard policies and practices of Tippecanoe County relating to juveniles, and ability to effectively implement applicable policies, procedures, and new programs accordingly.

Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to maintain complete and accurate files and prepare correspondence / documents / written reports as required.

Knowledge of treatment programs and services available to program participants from other government, social, and private agencies, with ability to assist staff in making / facilitating referrals as appropriate.

Knowledge of and ability to make hiring recommendations for clinical and residential employees.

Knowledge of basic filing systems and ability to file, post, and mail materials as required, copy data from one document to another, and interview to obtain information and / or data.

Ability to attend a variety of court proceedings, including sentencing, modification, restitution, termination, and dispositional hearings.

Ability to testify in legal proceedings / court as required.

Ability to comply with all employer and Department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.

Ability to operate standard office equipment, such as computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, and printer.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, , community based service providers, Department of Child Services, school teachers, counselors and administrators, parents and families of residents, Wabash Valley Alliance, local mental health providers, court appointed special advocates, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.

Ability to compare or observe similarities and differences between data, people, and things, compile, classify, analyze, evaluate, and observe data, and take action based on data analyses.

Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of Department information and records according to State requirements.

Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and follow oral and written instructions and present findings in oral or written form.

Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.

Ability to work on several tasks at the same time and work rapidly for long periods, occasionally under time pressure.

Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with difficult / hostile persons.

Ability to regularly work evenings and extended hours, occasionally work weekends, and travel out of town, for meetings / conferences / training, but not overnight.

Ability to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis, including serving in rotations for residential on-call and mental health initiative on-call.

Possession of a valid Indiana driver's license and a demonstrated safe driving record.

DIFFICULTY OF WORK :

Incumbent implements policies and procedures, exercising independent judgment in adapting basic guidelines and accepted procedures to meet specific situations and fit complex or contradictory circumstances.

Assignments are guided by definite objectives using a variety of methods or procedures with incumbent establishing policies, procedures, and performance standards.

RESPONSIBILITY :

Incumbent uses standard departmental practices, policies, and procedures to apply to specific situations and tasks. Work is assessed for soundness of judgment and attainment of objectives.

On rare occasions, decisions are made in the absence of specific policies and procedures.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS :

Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other County departments, Department of Child Services, school teachers, counselors, and administrators, parents and families of residents, Wabash Valley Alliance, local mental health providers, court appointed special advocates, juvenile probation, juvenile courts, and the public for purposes of giving and receiving information.

Incumbent reports directly to the Youth Services Clinical Director.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT :

Incumbent performs duties in a residential child caring institution and group home environment, involving sitting / walking at will, sitting / standing / walking for long periods, keyboarding, crouching / kneeling, lifting / carrying objects weighing less than 25 pounds, speaking clearly, and hearing sounds / communication.

Incumbent is exposed to normal hazards associated with at-risk adolescents, such as verbal abuse, communicable diseases, responding to situations involving potential harm to self and others, and potentially difficult / hostile individuals.

Incumbent regularly works evenings and extended hours, occasionally works weekends, and travels out of town, for meetings / conferences / training, but not overnight.

Incumbent serves in on-call rotations for residential and mental health programming.
