NICU Registered Nurse Job Details
Location : Tyler, TX 75701 (East Texas healthcare jobs)
Setting : Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) – 9 beds, expanding to 16
Employment Type : Locum Tenens / Travel Nurse Contract
Contract Duration : 13 weeks (Start : 10 / 6 / 2025 – End : 1 / 5 / 2026)
Shifts : Night shifts, 3x12-hour (18 : 00 – 06 : 00)
Hours per Week : 36
Patient Ratio : 1 : 3
Charting System : Epic EMR
Orientation : 36 hours onsite
NICU RN Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Texas or compact state
Minimum 2 years of recent Level III NICU RN experience
Previous travel nursing experience required
BLS (Basic Life Support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications required; STABLE certification preferred
Proficiency with Epic charting system
Community hospital nursing experience required
Ability to manage a 1 : 3 nurse-to-patient ratio
Must not reside in the following Texas counties : Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Smith, Gregg, Van Zandt, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, and Morris
NICU Nurse Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality neonatal nursing care to infants in a Level III NICU
Manage arterial and central lines, IV vasopressors, and advanced ventilator support (AC / PC / SIMV / CPAP / BIPAP / PEEP)
Perform feedings (bottle, breast, gavage) and support lactation in collaboration with IBCLCs and peer counselors
Implement isolation precautions and care for neonates with conditions such as neonatal abstinence syndrome, respiratory distress / failure, sepsis, hypoglycemia, and hyperbilirubinemia
Start and maintain IVs, manage UAC / UVC catheters, and utilize specialized NICU equipment
Float to Well Baby unit as needed to provide additional clinical support
Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and social services
Accurately document patient care using Epic EMR
