Base Operations Supervisor, Air Care & Mobile Care
UC Health is hiring a full-time Base Operations Supervisor to join our Air Care & Mobile Care team.
Holding a position on Air Care & Mobile Care's Leadership Team, the Base Operations Supervisor (BOS) serves as the site supervisor of the air and ground transport program's remote base(s) by providing administrative and clinical supervision (as defined by scope of practice) for all site related activities.
The BOS coordinates and supervises the daily operations of the Air Care & Mobile Care staff at the remote base(s) assigned.
They are responsible for ensuring all department, hospital, Joint Commission, Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS), and state regulations are maintained.
With the collaboration of the Clinical Manager, Director, and Medical Directors, the BOS ensures the continuity and quality of patient care and delivery of services.
They also work to coordinate outreach and marketing activities to area hospitals and EMS systems. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the BOS must maintain compliance standards as a Paramedic or EMT-B as specified by their medical discipline / scope of practice.
Responsibilities
Administrative and Operational Duties :
- Participates in setting Air Care & Mobile Care's strategic direction.
- Provides administrative and clinical supervision for ground and air operations at Air Care & Mobile Care's remote base(s) with 24-hour accountability to those bases.
- In collaboration with the Leadership Team ensures the quality, timeliness, and appropriateness of clinical care rendered during transport by clinical personnel responding from that remote base.
- Participates in interviewing for positions held within Air Care & Mobile Care.
- Directly responsible for recruiting and the hiring of EMT-Ps and / or EMT-Bs to ensure adequate staffing is available for the transport program.
- Responsible for appraising the performance of EMT-Bs and / or EMT-Ps as assigned.
- Provides input / evaluation of other Air Care & Mobile Care professionals' performance to their immediate supervisor.
- Develops the EMT-P and / or EMT-B schedule as assigned.
- 24-hour responsibility for ensuring appropriate staffing for all clinical shifts to meet operational needs.
- Within their scope of practice fills open shifts and / or collaborates with the Leadership Team to ensure adequate staffing is maintained.
- Coordinates and approves vacation and PTO of discipline assigned while assuring the transport program maintains adequate staffing.
- Coordinates with the Leadership Team to complete payroll while monitoring time and attendance of EMT-B and / or EMT-Ps.
- Ensures and is responsible for the daily operations and physical functioning of the remote base(s) assigned.
- Includes oversight of equipment, supplies, and paperwork as well as fleet management and maintenance.
- Prepares all operational and personnel reports for assigned remote base and discipline for which they have responsibility.
- Assures all department, hospital, Joint Commission, CAMTS, and state regulations are maintained.
- Has active involvement with the departments and ensures all certifications / licensures, continuing education, and clinical competencies are current for the air and / or ground transport associates assigned to the remote base(s) for which they have responsibility.
- Assists the transport associates in identifying individual learning needs and available resources.
- In collaboration with the Air Care & Mobile Care Leadership Team, gives input to any corrective actions as relevant to areas for which they are responsible and delivers appropriate corrective action to EMT-B and / or EMT-Ps as indicated.
- Serves as a liaison for department committee(s) as assigned.
- Has active involvement in other departments as well as University Hospital-wide committees.
- Rotation as the Administrator On Call for the program is expected.
- Other duties as assigned.
Clinical Practitioner and Professional Growth :
- Assumes responsibility as an EMT-B and / or EMT-P as defined by their scope of practice to cover staff shortages and retain skills.
- Has a commitment to self-development and is autonomous in taking the steps towards, and participating in, activities to assure ongoing professional growth and best practice.
- At a minimum stays current with industry trends and personal competencies through : participating in clinical and leadership conferences and continuing education opportunities as well as reading professional journals and books.
being actively involved in professional committees and organizations.completing at least two applicable clinical rotations per year.
Customer Service and Community Outreach Duties :
- Is a role model and holds staff accountable for ensuring customer service and patient satisfaction.
- Collaborates with the Community Outreach Coordinator, or their designee, to coordinate staff for all community outreach programs, events, and activities on behalf of Air Care & Mobile Care to hospitals, EMS agencies, or other customers in the areas encompassed by the remote base(s).
- Actively participates in education and training events for both internal and external customers.
- Collaborates with customers and other organizations and programs to ensure safe operations for Air Care and mobile Care.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma required
Licenses & Certifications
EMT-B : Current and active certification to practice as an EMT-B in the state of Ohio; National Registry Preferred.Valid and current Ohio driver's license with no more than 4 accrued points.
Basic Life Support (BLS)Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) or its equivalency. Instructor status preferred
EMT-P : All the above and in addition : Current and active certification to practice as a Paramedic in the state of Ohio;
National Registry PreferredAdvanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)ALS Pediatric Education for PreHospital Professionals (ALS-PEPP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) upon employmentAudit of Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or equivalent upon employment
Experience
- Five years of direct patient care experience as an EMT-B and / or EMT-P with an EMS agency or Private Patient Transport Service
- Two years of Inter-hospital transport experience with a critical care transport provider preferred
- Supervisor / Management experience preferred
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong clinical background.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with a wide spectrum of disciplines.
- Requires strong organizational skills.
- Due to the diversity of the BOS role, needs to have a high level of problem-solving, critical thinking ability and sound judgment regarding the interpretation of policies, development of procedures, and selection of appropriate courses of action.
- Will be required to report to the assigned remote base(s) but also spend working hours at the Air Care & Mobile Care Administrative Office as coordinated with immediate supervisor.
