Job Description

Description : About PCs for People

PCs for People is a national nonprofit committed to digital inclusion and environmental sustainability. We provide affordable technology and internet access to individuals and families across the country, helping bridge the digital divide and empower communities.

About the Role

The full-time Regional Operations Manager – West is responsible for overseeing operational performance in multiple markets, including Seattle, Denver, Minnesota, Kansas City, and Chicago. This position is based out of Oak Lawn, IL , and the selected candidate will serve as the local Operations Manager for the Illinois market.

In this role, the Regional Operations Manager will also supervise Operations Managers and / or Warehouse and Tech Managers in each city within the region. The position reports directly to the National Director of Operations and supports a unified strategy for national operational excellence.

This role blends expertise in warehouse and tech refurbishment operations, e-waste and R2 / NAID compliance, vendor coordination, and internal staff development. The goal is to maximize efficiency, ensure compliance, meet P&L targets, and scale sustainable impact through consistent systems and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Regional & Local Oversight

  • Serve as local Operations Manager for the home market while directly overseeing operational leaders in other cities (Operations Managers, or Warehouse and Tech Managers where no Ops Manager exists).
  • Align local operations with national objectives and SOPs developed in coordination with the Director of Operations and the CEO.
  • Support standardization and implementation of technology, warehouse, and e-waste management procedures across markets.
  • Ensure consistent execution and compliance across the region with organizational policies and certifications (R2, NAID, ISO, DOT).

Operational Leadership

  • Support and coach market leads to achieve KPIs for device production, inventory throughput, e-waste management, and facility performance.
  • Assure P&L accountability for e-waste commodity and computer refurbishment e-commerce revenue in the home market, and ensure regional leaders have the training, support, staffing, and operational systems needed to achieve financial targets.
  • Champion strategies that increase device reuse rates by improving intake sorting, reducing unnecessary recycling, and streamlining the refurbishment and imaging workflow.
  • Monitor performance metrics and proactively identify opportunities for improvement across regional markets.
  • Ensure inventory is efficiently processed, stocked, and distributed through appropriate sales channels.
  • Coordinate with the Community Impact team for bulk orders, from assigning to offices through timely shipment and accurate sales entry.
  • Coordinate with the ITAD sales and account management teams to ensure operational readiness for client pickups, accurate logging, and timely processing of inbound assets.
  • Monitor downstream vendor compliance, including qualification checks and environmental certifications for reuse, recycling, or destruction partners.
  • Divert assets that do not meet mission criteria to surplus sales (e.g., wholesale, eBay) rather than recycling whenever possible, to maximize reuse, revenue recovery, and environmental impact.
  • Vendor Management & Supply Chain

  • Manage vendor relationships across assigned markets, including downstream recyclers, refurbishment parts suppliers, freight / logistics providers, and facility service vendors.
  • Monitor vendor performance to ensure adherence to compliance standards, service-level expectations, and organizational policies.
  • Support national cost-saving initiatives by identifying opportunities to consolidate vendor services, improve purchasing efficiency, and reduce duplication across markets.
  • Collaborate with national operations and procurement leads to negotiate pricing and secure favorable terms for commonly used parts, supplies, and services across all markets.
  • Proactively maintain availability of key supplies including packaging materials, PPE, and repair parts through proactive coordination with market staff and vendors.
  • Facility Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure cleanliness, safety, and organization across regional facilities.
  • Monitor equipment maintenance and oversee vendor relationships for facility operations.
  • Manage internal audits, external certifications, and regulatory documentation in coordination with compliance staff.
  • Coordinate regional transportation logistics and uphold DOT and environmental standards.
  • Oversee ITAD operations within each market to ensure secure handling, documentation, and disposition of client assets in compliance with R2, NAID, and ISO standards.
  • Ensure proper chain of custody procedures, from asset intake through final processing, with documentation aligned to industry and client requirements.
  • People & Performance Management

  • Supervise and coach Operations Managers or equivalent staff across assigned cities.
  • Ensure Warehouse Managers and Computer Technician Managers are accountable for meeting departmental KPIs and revenue targets, including recycling revenue and e-commerce sales performance.
  • Provide regular coaching, performance reviews, and support to local managers to drive continuous improvement in operational execution and financial results.
  • Review and analyze local recycling revenue and device sales data, and partner with market leaders to address variances, remove roadblocks, and implement corrective action plans as needed.
  • Lead onboarding and training of new operations staff and provide ongoing development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with HR and national leadership to ensure consistency in operational staff performance and accountability systems.
  • Volunteer & Community Workgroup Integration

  • Partner with local and national staff to integrate volunteer labor and workgroup programs into daily operations (target : 30% of labor).
  • Ensure systems, training, and supervision enable high-quality volunteer contributions aligned with operational output and standards.
