Job Summary :
We are seeking a Manager to guide, mentor, challenge, and develop the Core Data Engineering team within the Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology.
The leader will be responsible for building out our foundational data platform and supporting services that scale to the entire organization.
This individual should thrive under pressure - growing the efficiency, creativity, and morale of the entire team. In addition, The person will have excellent communication skills, and be required to formulate rapport with dozens of both downstream consumption teams and upstream producing teams.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role :
- Help build and maintain an engineering culture that embraces diversity and fosters trust and innovation within the team
- Build and mentor high performance teams that focus on stable, reliable, scalable and high performant data pipelines that power the foundational data platform
- Develop a strong technical platform vision that encourages team members to build configuration driven platform tools to allow the principles of the team to scale throughout the organization
- Collaborate with Data Product Managers, Data Architects, Software and Data Engineers, and leadership to develop strong business relationships and drive innovative business driven solutions.
- Be an active participant with all agile related processes, helping develop and refine existing processes to enhance delivery velocity
- Set engineering standards for the team, ensuring the production of high quality code, operational continuity and stability
- Have an affinity for clear communication, prioritization, and helping others in our organization wherever possible
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience
- Experience scaling and leading a team of 5+ members
- 5+ years work experience in building complex data pipelines. Strong background in both stream processing and batch processing methodologies.
- 5 + years of proficient SQL experience, working with a variety of different database systems including distributed systems such as Spark, Hive, BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift.
- Proven experience in programming languages including scripting (. Scala, Python, Bash).
- Experience with workflow management tools (Airflow, Oozie, Azkaban, UC4)
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong project and program management experience in agile fast paced environments
- Familiarity with data exploration / data visualization tools like Tableau, Looker, Databricks, etc.
- Strong communication skills - written and verbal presentations
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment
- Excellent conceptual and analytical reasoning competencies
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study in computer science, EE or other quantitative subject area.
- Master’s degree a plus
The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica, California is $164,492 to $220,600 per year, in Bristol, Connecticut is $164,492 to $220,600 per year in Seattle, Washington is $172,282 to $231,110 per year, in New York City, NY is $172,282 to $231,110 per year, and in San Francisco, California is $180,154 to $241,670 per year.
The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
A bonus and / or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and / or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
