Job Description Summary

The Lead Manufacturing Engineer will work in a production shop environment and serve as product / process engineer. The role will have hardware and process ownership and responsible for planning / execution. The role will impact departmental operations while providing exposure to lean principles and techniques. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Define and control production processes including tooling and equipment. Validate design specifications and shop floor application of new product, tools, or equipment.
• Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy / strategy.
• In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
• Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
• A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members.
• Participate in the development of mid- and long-term plans outlining projects to support the business in meeting its objectives with a strong focus on cost, part quality and cycle time.
• Promote internal and external customer satisfaction and develop positive design engineering relationships.
• Exhibit ownership and take responsibility in attaining all aspects of production operation including safety, scheduling, quality, and team development in assigned areas.
• Plan and implement process-engineering activities for new product development and current product support.
• Determine safe manufacturing processes that produce a quality product in the most efficient method of manufacture.
• Investigate and apply new technology in support of site growth plans.
• Assist supervisors and production employees in resolving manufacturing process problems through a drive to root cause and permanent corrective action.
• Conduct training, process planning, evaluate operating methods, select controls, and specify tools, fixtures and gages necessary to repeatedly build conforming hardware.
• Maintain the manufacturing engineering system on part routing and standards.
• Co-lead efforts to maintain and improve shop floor quality controls and best practices with area Product Team Leaders
• Execute manufacturing related quality planning activities.
• Pursue continuous improvement for quality and cost reductions in designated area.
• Act as change agent, understanding and moving the operation toward benchmarked, best of class performance.
• Travel up to 10% or as needed.
