General Description : An assistant professor is sought for the Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences Program (BSMS). The in Medical Sciences program seeks a qualified applicant who will contribute primarily to the educational and research missions of the School of Health Professions (SHP) at UT Health San Antonio, as well as other duties associated with a -month faculty appointment in the SHP.

Tenure / non-tenure track and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

• Serve as the primary course instructor for multiple courses offered within the program with emphasis on Medical Sciences.
• Develop, deliver, and evaluate instruction, including course goals, objectives, learning activities, and student evaluation methods (examinations, projects, assignments, etc.

appropriate to the degree level.

• Assist with clinical practicum affiliations / agreements, and assessments of students and clinical preceptors.
• Support research and scholarship in the faculty member’s area of specialty, including publication of peer-reviewed research.
• Seek out and pursue externally funded grant opportunities.
• Recruit, retain, counsel, and advise students.
• Assign relevant projects and assignments, providing timely and meaningful feedback to facilitate learning.
• Assist with SHP publications (, catalog, program handbooks, and student handbooks).
• Serve on departmental, school, and university-wide committees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Knowledge : Earned doctoral degree, preferably a PhD in Biological Sciences or a related discipline, and postdoctoral experience is preferred.

Current active membership in related professional associations is required.

Experience in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.

Interprofessional education and interdisciplinary clinical experiences are preferred.

Skills : Excellent teaching and instructional skills.

Excellent verbal skills and written communication.

Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanor.

Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

Excellent working knowledge and experience with MS Office, Educational Software, and web-based applications.

Experience with health professions and professional programs.

Abilities : Ability to consistently instruct and counsel students in an informative and professional manner.

Able and willing to learn new skills as needed, especially to work with new instructional technologies.

Ability to develop and implement courses and programs.
