Position Summary

The Laboratory Coordinator is responsible for aiding faculty with all phases of

lab preparation including ordering, set-up, and other activities associated with

lab delivery. Responsibilities also include oversight and daily maintenance of the

department laboratories that include : Physics; Thermal and Fluids; Structures,

  • Mechanics and Materials; Measurements and Instrumentation; Networks;

Optics; and Astronomy. Additional responsibilities include assistance to

students, ensuring a safe laboratory environment, and other related laboratory

duties.

Job Description

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The Laboratory Coordinator will consistently exercise their own discretion and judgement when performing the following functions relating to safety and scheduling.

  • Set-up and take down of classroom demonstrations
  • Laboratory set-up for a variety of labs
  • General maintenance of laboratory facilities
  • Maintain laboratories to ensure laboratory experiments can be conducted smoothly and safely
  • Ordering equipment, materials, and monitoring portions of department operational budget
  • Routinely maintaining and repairing instruments, equipment, and computers used in the laboratory courses
  • Maintain safety supplies for labs
  • Organize hiring and supervise undergraduate Teaching Assistants for laboratory courses
  • Train teaching assistants for preparedness and safety
  • Help to acquire new instrumentation and equipment
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Required Education, Specialized Skill And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering or other closely related science Two or more years experience in a physical sciences and / or engineering laboratory setting
  • Experience solving technical problems with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Preferred Education, Specialized Skills And Experience

  • Previous involvement in educational programs
  • Experience with physics and / or engineering instrumentation and data acquisition
  • Willingness to support instructors in the lab during courses, as needed
  • Familiarity with common laboratory and shop equipment
  • Reports To / Supervisory Responsibility

    Reports to Chair of Physics and Engineering Department

    The salary for this position is $45,123, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
